Reading vs Sheffield Utd prediction and top betting tips

Sheffield United have looked nailed on for promotion for quite a long time this season but that is starting to look less certain as the weeks go on. They lost at the weekend as their hosts were hit for five by the same Middlesbrough side that are looking to leapfrog them into the top two. Can the Blades follow Boro's suit and put Reading to the sword here? Find out with our Reading vs Sheffield Utd match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Reading vs Sheffield Utd Prediction 1: Sheffield United to win

We kick off our predictions with a Sheffield United to win tip but, we'll be honest, that is a result that will buck the form trend. Reading are unbeaten at home in seven games whilst Sheffield United have not won away in four games. Why then do we fancy Sheffield United to win? Well, firstly, they are far more desperate for the points than their midtable hosts, which is something that shouldn't be ignored. Secondly, the Blades have a good record at Reading's stadium having won on each of their last three league visits there.

Reading vs Sheffield Utd Prediction 2: Both teams will score

The second of our football betting tips for this game comes from the both teams to score market and we're backing ‘yes'. We've already touched on the fact that Reading have been in good form at home and, as part of that, they've found the net in each of their last nine games in front of their home fans. As for Sheffield United, they've scored in eight of their last 10 games so have a pretty tidy record of hitting the net too.

So, that gives you some insight to how the different bookmakers see the action unfolding. How though do the Reading vs Sheffield Utd odds translate into probability ahead of this game? Let's find out.

Reading odds: 3/1 (4.00) – 25%

Draw odds: 11/4 (3.75) – 27%

Sheffield Utd odds: 8/9 (1.89) – 53%

The odds attached to this game are a little surprising in some ways. Sheffield United are odds on favourites to win, which we've predicted they will do, but a 3/1 (4.00) price for a Reading side in such good home form does feel a little long. Will some punters be tempted?

Check out the predicted lineups ahead of Reading vs Sheffield Utd

Reading

Reading were hammered by Middlesbrough at the weekend but, prior to that, they put in a really decent display to beat Blackpool. This game is going to be tougher than that game against the Seasiders but it's impossible to imagine Paul Ince not ringing a few changes given how badly outclassed they were by a Middlesbrough side that are currently trying to hunt down their visitors for this game.

Predicted lineup – Lumley, Mbengue, Dann, Sarr, McIntyre, Casadei, Hendrick, Meite, Ince, Hoilett, Carroll

Sheffield Utd

Like their hosts, Sheffield United also lost at the weekend but a fair amount of that performance can arguably be put down to the fact that they'd had an energy sapping match against Tottenham in the midweek. The Blades need to get back to winning ways for sure but, given how thick and fast their games have been coming, a few changes are probably to be expected. It's also important to note that Anel Ahmedhodzic will be missing due to suspension.

Predicted lineup – Foderingham, Robinson, Egan, Basham, Osborn, Norwood, Berge, McAtee, Bogle, Sharp, Ndiaye

Player to watch

Sheffield United's Senegalese attacked Iliman Ndiaye bagged his sides winning goal against Tottenham last week but in the league he has been going through a bit of a dry spell having not netted since January 14th. Confidence is a huge part of football though and that cup goal will have Ndiaye buzzing. It didn't happen for him or his team at the weekend but in this game he can expect to see plenty of the Reading goal and him ending his league dry spell is highly likely.
