Sheffield United were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Derby County last weekend. Despite being the clear favourites, they needed a late equaliser to salvage a point against their short-handed visitors.
Chris Wilder's troops have struggled for consistency of late, having won only two of their last seven matches in all competitions. They have also not been able to win back-to-back games this season.
The Blades have had a 4-4-4 win-draw-loss record in 12 league matches so far, and with 16 points accumulated, they are 12th in the Championship, five places above Wrexham, who have earned 14 points.
Coach Wilder cannot call upon the services of defender Jamie Shackleton, who is ruled out with a thigh injury. The 59-year-old gaffer could also be without Matt Doherty and former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford, as both players need a final assessment to confirm their availability.
Bamford has scored five Championship goals this season for the Blades, with his potential absence seen as a key blow for the side. However, Tyrese Campbell could finally halt his scoreless run on Friday, with the 26-year-old being the likely candidate to start in the centre-forward position.
On the other hand, Wrexham were beaten 2-0 by Blackburn Rovers in their last league outing. Like their opponents, they have managed only two wins in their last eight games, with both victories coming at home.
The visiting team's recent run of results on the road does not inspire much confidence, as they have no wins in their last four away games and have managed only one win in seven matches on the road across all competitions, failing to score in four of them.
Head coach Phil Parkinson will be unable to call upon the services of the injured Josh Windass (ankle), Liberato Cacace (calf), and Max Cleworth (hamstring) for this skirmish. Kieffer Moore is expected to lead the line for the visitors. The highly experienced forward has scored twice in his last three games, and five overall this season in the Division.
It is worth mentioning that Wrexham have the bragging rights ahead of this clash, having beaten Sheffield United twice in this competition last season; however, there have been five skirmishes between these outfits in recent years, and both teams share a 2-1-2 win-draw-loss record.
