Wolves have had a mixed start to the season, but they can just about be satisfied with where they are after 10 matches played, with the automatic promotion spots still well within reach.

A period of adjustment was always inevitable after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, and with the appointment of Cesar Peixoto, who joined unexpectedly after the departure of Rob Edwards.

Having said all that, a win at the weekend was very much needed after back-to-back defeats. Prevailing away at Burnley remains an impressive feat at this level, despite the Clarets' own struggles, and it could put Wolves back on track.

For the match against Portsmouth, Peixoto has issues at the top of the pitch, with Raul Jimenez and Adam Armstrong both injured. Rodrigo Gomes, Boubacar Traore and Bertrand Traore are also unavailable.

As for Portsmouth, the dream of a Premier League return is edging ever so slightly closer to becoming a reality after a positive start to the season.

Pompey have been involved in back-to-back relegation battles since returning to the Championship in 2024, but after coming through both seasons unscathed, they now look equipped to push further up the table this time around.

To the club's credit, they have stood by John Mousinho throughout both relegation scraps, and they are now perhaps going to reap the rewards for that. They head to Molineux on the back of two consecutive wins and have lost just one of their last six matches.

Mousinho has even more injury concerns than his opposite number, which makes Portsmouth's recent form even more impressive. He could be without as many as nine first-team players for this one, including John Swift, Luke Brooke-Smith, Franco Umeh and Thomas Waddingham.
