Blackpool vs Rotherham: Our top betting predictions

Blackpool rescued a late draw last time out and now have another massive game in the relegation battle at the bottom of the Championship. Will they find a way to win this game? Find out with our Blackpool vs Rotherham match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Backing a home win

We kick off our tips for this game by backing Blackpool to win. Mick McCarthy is starting to get his feet under the table at Bloomfield Road now and the way the fought back from behind twice in the week is a clear sign of growing resilience in the group. That draw with Huddersfield also took Blackpool's home record to just one defeat in five. Rotherham have been in okay form of late and dominate the head to head record but, with McCarthy in the door, we just think the Seasiders might find a way.

Both teams will score

We might not be singing the praises of these sides from a match result perspective but both Blackpool and Rotherham have been finding the net without too much issue. Blackpool have seen both teams score inside their last four games at home whilst the  last two Rotherham away days have also seen goals at both ends of the pitch. Two of the last three – and three of the last five – head to head games have also seen both teams register goals. With all that considered, the odds on offer look pretty reasonable.

So, that gives you some insight to how the different bookmakers see the action unfolding. How though do the bookies odds translate into probabilities ahead of this game and how might that impact your view of our predictions? Let's find out.

Blackpool odds: 8/7 (2.14) – 47%

Draw odds: 12/5 (3.40) – 29%

Rotherham odds: 7/3 (3.30) – 30%

Blackpool arrive in this game as favourites to take the points but the odds aren't nailed on in the slightest as they're still sat north of the evens (2.00) line. That puts doubt in the mind of punters immediately and there is every chance that they turn a few people into betting on a Rotherham win as they perceive the Millers to provide a better value bet. The total goals market is another that might attract a fair bit of attention with the over 2.5 betting option priced quite strongly.

Blackpool

Say what you want about Mick McCarthy but he seems to instantly install grit and determination into his players and those qualities were on show last time out. Providing McCarthy is getting an big stint of energy from his players, mass changes are always very unlikely. That said, the starting XI could be amended slightly with certain players excelling off the bench in midweek. Gary Madine meanwhile will be out owing to the red card he picked up.

Predicted lineup – Maxwell, Connolly, Goode, Nelson, Husband, Trybull, Dougall, Yates, Carey, Bowler, Poveda

Rotherham

Rotherham have been going along fairly well since they lost to Ipswich, ironically a former employer of Mick McCarthy, in the FA Cup with a win and two draws. Most recently in that run, they took a point off Sheffield United. It would be really harsh if there were changes made to the XI in that side – especially when you consider a draw is a much better result here for Rotherham than it is Blackpool

Predicted lineup – Johansson, Peltier, Hall, Humphreys, Hjelde, Odoffin, Coventry, Rathbone, Ogbene, Hugill, Fosu

Player to watch

This game is likely to be a tight encounter and therefore finding a goal will quite possibly prove the difference between a point and all three. Blackpool have Jerry Yates in their ranks and he has nine goals for the league season alone. He is probably the biggest goal threat on the pitch.
