In this article, we have examined the Rodri Man City wages issue in greater detail, specifically examining how much he will earn while out injured and what this could mean for his club.
The Spain international midfielder has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in City's 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
There is no doubt that Rodri will be a huge miss on the pitch. He holds a remarkable record of being unbeaten in the Premier League when he has been in the team since February 2023, when City lost 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur.
Let's look at just how much the 28-year-old will earn while injured…
Rodri Man City wages: How much does the midfield star earn?
According to Capology, Rodri currently earns £11.44m per year at City, which is the equivalent of £880k per month and £220k per week.
This makes him the eighth-highest earner in Pep Guardiola's squad, behind Kevin De Bruyne, who earns the most in the squad at £400k per week, Erling Haaalnd (£375k), Jack Grealish (£300k), Bernardo Silva (£300k), John Stones (£250k), Ilkay Gundogan (£230k) and Phil Foden (£225k).
In comparison, considering just how important he is to Pep Guardiola's team, his salary is not astronomical. Should the likes of Real Madrid or Premier League star hunters Al-Nassr try to sign him in the next summer transfer window, it is likely a salary that they would be prepared to pay.
How much will Man City have to pay Rodri while he is out injured?
Injuries are part of football, so there is nothing more City can do in this case to ease the situation. Other clubs have had to go through this as well, like Al-Hilal with Brazilian winger Neymar last season and Liverpool with Netherlands central defender Virgil van Dijk in the 2020/21 campaign.
That will be of no comfort to City, though, as they will have to pay Rodri a staggering £1.76m while injured. At least.
That scenario could be worse still, though, as it also assumes their last game of the season will be on Sunday, 25 May, away at Fulham in the Premier League, with no appearance in the Champions League final or FA Cup final.
The newly-revamped FIFA Club World Cup, which City are also participating in, is scheduled for between Sunday 15 June and Sunday 13 July. So should Rodri's injury drag on until then, the club will also have to pay him for those further lost weeks too.
So, just how can City best deal with Rodri's absence?
Well, they could look to sign or loan in a brand new central defensive midfielder in the January transfer window as a potential stop-gap, and there are five midfield maestros that they could bring to the Etihad Stadium.
