Saturday January 14th treats us to a Championship clash between Reading and QPR.

Reading vs QPR: Our top betting predictions

QPR have had Reading's number in recent history. Will that prove to be the case again here or is it time for the Royals to fight back? Find out with our Reading vs QPR match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Draw written all over it

You can spin the stats whatever way you want, you simply will not find solid evidence to back either of these teams to take maximum points when they lock horns on Saturday afternoon and, as such, we kick off our predictions by backing the draw. For starters, Reading and QPR currently occupy 12th and 13th in the Championship standings with both sides having collected the same number of points (36) from 26 games. It's not just the table that leads us to a draw prediction though. Neither side is churning out wins either. Reading have won two, lost two and drawn one from their last five whilst QPR have won one, drawn two and lost two from their previous handful of games. A share of the spoils is likely.

Goals to be in short supply

Our next prediction comes from the total goals market and we are backing under 2.5 goals. Reading have gone under that threshold in each of their last three games totalling just five goals in that period. QPR meanwhile have seen three of their last five games go south of the all important 2.5 marker. Six of the last 10 head to head games between these sides have also gone under 2.5 goals. With the odds that are on offer from our preferred bookie 888, we think going under 2.5 represents the best value.

So, that gives you some insight to how the different bookmakers see the action unfolding. How though do the bookies odds translate into probabilities ahead of this game and how might that impact your view of our predictions? Let's find out.

Reading odds: 13/8 (2.63) – 38%

Draw odds: 9/4 (3.25) – 31%

QPR odds: 12/7 (2.71) – 37%

When you've got implied probabilities of a home win being 38% and an away win being 37% it's probably fair to say that the bookies are having a tough time of calling the match in question. This game will likely appeal to bettors because of the good odds but it also has the potential to be a real coupon buster. A safer market to delve into might be the total goals market; the bookies have more of a clear view on how they feel that might play out in this match with the under 2.5 goals option odds on.

Reading

Reading are without four injured players for this game including Tyrese Fornah, who is probably the most notable of the absentees. The Royals made some changes for the cup last week and, after a good performance, a few of those might make the starting XI here.

Predicted lineup – Lumley (GK), McIntyre, Dann, Yiadom, Hoilett, Ince, Loum, Hendrick, Abrefa, Joao, Long

QPR

QPR suffered FA Cup humiliation at the hands of lower league opposition last week so, unlike their hosts, there are unlikely to have been anyone put much credit in the bank from that game. We'll likely see the likes of Andre Dozzell and Nicholas Hamalainen drop to the bench.

Predicted lineup – Dieng (GK), Kakay, Dickie, Dunne, Paal, Field, Chair, Roberts, Willock, Iroegbunam, Dykes

Player to watch

Lyndon Dykes is always a handful for QPR and he'll be exactly the same in this game. He came out of last weeks cup loss with a small amount of credit in the bank after setting up the R's goal and, more importantly, he has a great record against Reading. His last three games against Reading have seen him score five times!
