Authenticity (4.5/5): PSG make progress in Zabarnyi pursuit
Paris Saint-Germain have been trying to sign Ilya Zabarnyi since May and now their negotiations with Bournemouth are in the advanced stages.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who adds the 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Champions League winners.
Value (4/5): Both clubs getting closer to an agreement
Earlier this summer, the Cherries suggested they have no desire to sell the Ukraine international, having already lost Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid. However, now it is understood the two clubs are in negotiations to come to an agreement over a deal worth around £51million. That being said, the Premier League outfit continue to insist that his exit will only be allowed on their terms.
Suitability (4/5): Tactical intelligence
While Huijsen earned plaudits for his ability to bring the ball out from the back, Zabarnyi impressed many with the way he covered the space behind the other centre-back. Apart from his positional and tactical awareness, the Ukrainian is combative in duels and composed in possession.
Upgrade? (4.5/5): Defensive depth
In Willian Pacho and Marquinho, Luis Enrique is blessed with a well-rounded centre-back pairing. As such, it is safe to assume that Zabarnyi will not be handed any guarantee over his place in the starting lineup. He is likely to be viewed as a high-profile addition to strengthen the side's defensive depth.
Logic (3.5/5): Lucrative move
Zabarnyi has the potential to be a regular starter at any top club in Europe. As such, from his development point of view, a move to the French capital makes little sense. However, considering he has already given his nod, it's clear he finds the opportunity to play for the Champions League winners too lucrative to turn down.
Whisper+ verdict: 20.5/25
Considering the reputation of the source, it seems Zabarnyi's move to Ligue 1 is a matter of when, and not if.
