Manchester City v Tottenham last five H2Hs
Tottenham 0-1 Manchester City – 25th April 2021
Back in April 2021, Tottenham faced Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final. Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy, inexplicably decided to sack serial winner, Jose Mourinho, a week before the final which meant Ryan Mason took charge of the Lilywhites while Pep Guardiola and Manchester City were going for four League Cups on the bounce. City dominated the game but it took them until the 82nd minute to win it via an Aymeric Laporte header.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester City – 15th August 2021
Tottenham faced Man City on the opening day of the 2021/22 season with Nuno Espirito Santo as manager. Spurs managed the game superbly, frustrating their superior opponents before Son Heung-Min rifled one past Ederson from distance in the second half. The match would turn out to be the high point of Santo's tenure as Spurs boss with the ex-Wolves man getting the sack just a few months later.
Manchester City 2-3 Tottenham – 19th February 2022
Tottenham completed the double over Manchester City in the 2021/22 season when they won a classic at the Etihad Stadium in February 2022. The game twisted one way and then the other before Riyad Mahrez equalised for the Blues in the 92nd minute. City then pushed for a winner but got sucker-punched on the counter-attack by Harry Kane who nodded home in the 96th minute to give Tottenham all three points.
Manchester City 4-2 Tottenham – 19th January 2023
Eleven months after one Manchester City vs Tottenham classic, another occurred at the same stadium. Tottenham scored two goals at the end of the first half to take an unlikely 2-0 lead into the break at the Etihad Stadium but the Blues came out firing in the second half and flipped the game on its head thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland and a double from Riyad Mahrez.
Tottenham 1-0 Manchester City – 5th February 2023
The most recent Manchester City vs Tottenham H2H came in February 2023 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. City, who were trying to chase down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, put in a dismal display in North London. Spurs won thanks to an early goal from Harry Kane – a very special one as it made the England striker Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer. City would quickly put the defeat behind them and go on a winning run that would see them lift a magical treble.
Potential MVP – Erling Haaland
It was only this time last month that people were beginning to get on Erling Haaland's back after the Norweigan went a few games without a goal. Since then, however, he is back scoring goals for fun and got the opener last weekend against Liverpool. Haaland has 19 goals in 19 matches already this season and is on track to match his ridiculous tally of 52 goals from last season.
Haaland netted the equaliser in City's 4-2 comeback win against Tottenham last season and will fancy his chances of getting at least one on Sunday given how depleted the Spurs back line is.
Since 2010, there has only been one draw in Manchester City vs Tottenham H2Hs with both clubs typically going for it against each other every time they go to battle. We expect another ding-dong battle on Sunday but given Spurs' injuries and City's formidable record at the Etihad Stadium, we are going for a comfortable home victory with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
