Authenticity (5/5): As reliable as a source can be

One of Manchester United‘s biggest problems this season has been the incapacity to score goals despite the creation of chances not being a major issue for the side with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling for form in front of goal.

According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are targeting Egyptian striker Marmoush in an effort to bring in fresh blood in attack for their new manager, Ruben Amorim.

In terms of accurate transfer news on the German football market, Plettenberg is arguably the most reliable source, and there is no reason to doubt the accuracy of the Marmoush story.

Value (3.5/5): Frankfurt ready to sell for close to €60 million

The report by Plettenberg has stated that Frankfurt are aware of the interest in Marmoush by a number of clubs after his rapid start to the season in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. As such, the German side have set a price tag of close to €60 million (£50.1m) for his suitors if a January move is on the cards.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in the Egyptian forward but have been put off by the suggested price tag as they prioritise renewing Mohamed Salah instead. As such, Manchester United will have a straight shot at Marmoush should they make a move in January.

Suitability (2.5/5): Not a striker fit for the 3-4-3

Amorim has brought over his 3-4-3 tactic from Sporting to Manchester United this month and that formation was exactly what he used in his debut match against Ipswich Town, however, he started Marcus Rashford as the dynamic number nine instead of Hojlund or Zirkzee, who are more traditional strikers.

As such, the Portuguese coach will be hopeful that United brings in a more dynamic striker to his squad who can serve as the number nine in the 3-4-3. However, Marmoush would not be the best choice for that role as he is more of a ball-carrying second striker or centre-forward who has mainly played in a two-striker setup.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Hojlund a better choice up top

While Marmoush and Hojlund may go toe-to-toe in terms of the potential ceiling and Egyptian may beat the Dane as a more fully rounded centre-forward, United need a threat up top to finish their chances. As such, the Frankfurt star may not be a direct upgrade on Hojlund but won't be a downgrade either.

Logic (2.5/5): Marmoush could wait for better opportunities in 2025

It is highly unlikely that a move to Manchester United in January could be the best option for Marmoush as he could potentially finish the season with Eintracht Frankfurt before looking for a move away in the summer of 2025.

A move to Liverpool could await him next summer if the Reds are unable to agree to a contract extension with Salah. For the Red Devils, there are more suited strikers available on the market for the January window that they could target instead.

Whisper+ final verdict – 16/25

With Amorim joining United, Old Trafford will become a more appealing destination for the top promising youngster. However, Marmoush would be better off waiting on other opportunities on the market as he continues to develop at Frankfurt until the end of the season.
