Home win

Lyon have won each of their last four competitive home matches, scoring 12 goals across that run.

Lyon will look to get their Ligue 1 campaign back on track when they welcome Angers to Groupama Stadium on Sunday, with Paulo Fonseca’s side hoping to respond after suffering consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Les Gones sit fifth after eight league matches, while Le SCO occupy 14th place with just eight points, leaving them only one point above the relegation playoff spot.

Lyon have experienced a sudden dip in form after making an encouraging start to the campaign, losing two of their last three league outings following an unbeaten opening five matches in Ligue 1.

Fonseca’s side head into this encounter on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, a result that has seen Les Gones slip further down the table.

Nevertheless, their defensive organisation has been a major positive, with only Lille (six) and Lorient (six) conceding fewer than Lyon’s seven goals in the league this season.

Performances at Groupama Stadium should also provide encouragement, as Les Gones have collected 10 points at home, the joint third-highest tally in the division.

Angers, meanwhile, travel to the Rhone hoping to build on a goalless draw against Lorient, which ended a difficult spell in which they had conceded five goals in each of their previous two outings.

Stephane Gilli’s side have also struggled against stronger opposition, losing three of their four league matches this season against teams currently in the top half of the table.

Nevertheless, Angers have shown they can be difficult to break down when they maintain their defensive shape, having kept three clean sheets in their last five league fixtures.

However, Le SCO have also lacked consistency in the final third, failing to score in three of their eight Ligue 1 matches this season.

Whispers predicts: Lyon 2-0 Angers

Lyon to win at 1.40 (2/5) is an appealing selection, with the hosts’ strong home record and superior quality making them well placed to collect all three points against an Angers side that have struggled against higher-ranked opposition.

Lyon over 1.5 goals at 1.40 (2/5) is also worth backing, as Fonseca’s men have regularly found the net at home, while Lyon over 0.5 first-half goals at 1.44 (4/9) offers another interesting option given the visitors’ difficulties before the interval.

A 2-0 victory for Lyon at 7.50 (13/2) also looks a reasonable correct-score prediction, with the hosts capable of making their home advantage count while keeping Angers at arm’s length.
