Whilst Marc Guehi has long been Liverpool‘s priority at centre-back, the English player's transfer is far from finalised. The Reds could fall back on a Jupiler League defender.

Between Liverpool, Barca, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, Marc Guehi has a lot of suitors. Whilst the English giants seemed to have the edge, this case is more competitive than last summer and the Crystal Palace captain does not seem to have yet made his decision about his future. Which forces Liverpool's directors to plan a backup, as a centre-back is still the priority in the transfer window.

Since the start of the season, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate's performances have been very insufficient. Moreover, the French player reaches the end of his contract in June 2026, which forces Liverpool to recruit a new centre-back who can embody both the present and the future. According to information from TEAMtalk, the Reds are considering making an offer for Joel Ordonez.

Premier League covet Ordonez

The Ecuadorian defender was long reported as OM's big coup during the summer transfer window. Ultimately, he stayed at Club Brugge and even extended his contract until June 2029. But the English press assure that Liverpool are considering taking action this winter. It should be noted that Chelsea are also interested and that the presence of his compatriot Moises Caicedo could play a role in this case.

After retaining their player this summer, Brugge would now be prepared to transfer him, probably for a high sum, especially to an English league heavyweight. Whilst Joel Ordonez is valued at €28m (£23.9m) on Transfermarkt, the Belgians could demand at least €40m (£35m) to sell the 21-year-old player. It should be noted that Chelsea are exploring other targets, such as Nottingham Forest defender Murillo.
