Authenticity (3/5): Liverpool interested in Rodrygo
Real Madrid winger Rodrgyo is the latest attacker to land on Liverpool‘s radar, with the Reds open to making a move for the Brazilian should Luis Diaz depart amid interest from Bayern Munich.
That is according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who adds that Liverpool are “informed about conditions” of a potential deal.
Value (1.5/5): Real willing to sell
It is claimed that Real would be open to selling Rodrygo, who is aware of the club's stance. However, any deal would be very expensive. Previous reports have suggested Los Blancos would demand around £70million for the 24-year-old, who is on a lucrative contract worth £8.5million net per year at Santiago Bernabeu.
Suitability (4.5/5): Agile and technically proficient
Rodrygo isn't the most athletic winger around. However, there are very few forwards more technically secure than the Brazilian, who combines his agility and technical ability to change direction quickly and make sharp turns in tight spaces. He has an eye for an incisive pass and movement to get on the end of crosses. Even in an underwhelming campaign by his standards, he was directly involved in 25 goals across all competitions last term.
Upgrade? (4/5): Replacement for Diaz
Liverpool will only consider signing Rodrygo if they lose their Colombian winger, who occupies the left flank. At Real, the Brazil international has mostly played on the right wing, but the right-footed attacker is a natural left-winger who could prove to be an upgrade on Diaz.
Logic (3.5/5): New challenge
Rodrygo struggled to play regularly under Carlo Ancelotti following Kylian Mbappe's arrival. In the Club World Cup, Xabi Alonso also showed little trust in his skill sets. As such, moving to a different club, where he is more valued, would be ideal for the highly-rated forward.
Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25
While the idea of Rodrygo to Liverpool should excite many in Merseyside, the possible costs involved make any deal very unlikely.
