Leeds United have stepped up their efforts to sign Matthis Abline, with the newly promoted Premier League side now considered frontrunners to land the highly rated French striker.
The Peacocks are looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline and have identified Abline as a priority target. The 21-year-old forward, who scored 11 goals in 36 appearances for Nantes last season, came off the bench in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain—potentially one of his final outings for the Ligue 1 club.
According to Caught Offside, Leeds are in advanced talks with Nantes and have received a positive response from the player, who is said to be open to a move to Elland Road.
Leeds out in front despite strong interest from France and England
Leeds’ interest in Abline signals a clear intent to strengthen in the final third. The club are also closing in on AC Milan winger Noah Okafor as part of a wider recruitment push following their return to the Premier League.
Abline’s potential move comes despite reports last week from RMC Sport suggesting he had turned down Wolverhampton Wanderers and was prioritising to stay in Ligue 1, with Paris FC even tabling a €25m (£21.2m) bid.

Nantes lower asking price amid Premier League interest
Nantes initially set a valuation of €50m (£42.6m), according to president Waldemar Kita. However, the French club have since lowered their demands to €40m (£34m), making a deal more feasible for Leeds and other interested parties.
Caught Offside claims Abline has long been eager to test himself in English football, and Leeds believe they can provide the right sporting and financial platform to persuade him.
The Peacocks may still face competition from Wolves and several French clubs, including Lille, Marseille and Paris FC, but currently appear to be leading the race. Whether they are willing to meet Nantes’ latest valuation remains to be seen as the transfer deadline approaches.
