Forget the countdown to Christmas – here at Football Whispers we are counting down the days to the January window! With that in mind, we take a closer look at some of the latest transfer news today.
One of the biggest stories of the day comes out of Old Trafford, with Manchester United set to join three other European heavyweights in the race to sign a £60m Bundesliga defender.
Elsewhere, AS Roma were expected to make a move for United forward Joshua Zirkzee, though they have now outlined an alternative in case the original deal falls through.
Here are the biggest headlines of the day…

Liverpool and Arsenal battle for Rodrygo

Media outlet Caught Offside report that Real Madrid are ready to part ways with superstar winger Rodrygo, but only if the right offer lands on their desk.
Los Blancos were ready to sell the player in the previous summer window, though the £88m asking price was enough to keep interested clubs at bay.
The La Liga giants have now dropped their demands and would be willing to accept an offer between £70m and £80m – still a sizable chunk of money for a player who regularly features on the bench.
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal are said to be interested in the player, and they could get their hands on the player as early as this winter window. The only question facing the clubs is whether they would be willing to spend such a large amount of money on the Brazil international.
Man United join European giants in Nathaniel Brown race

Manchester United are one of four European behemoths who are competing for the signature of 22-year-old defender Nathaniel Brown, according to the latest report by German news outlet Bild.
The Eintracht Frankfurt star is also being chased by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal, with the Bundesliga outfit hoping to get in the region of £50m to £60m for his signature.
Frankfurt are in no rush to sell, considering Brown’s contract with the club does not expire until the summer of 2030, though a deal is expected sooner rather than later.
United are expected to be in the thick of the transfer battle, with the Red Devils determined to beef up their defence.
AS Roma find alternative for Man Utd’s Joshua Zirkzee

Serie A giants AS Roma have outlined Tottenham’s Mathys Tel as an alternative to Man United’s Joshua Zirkzee, though the Red Devils striker remains their top priority, according to transfer expert Ekrem Konur.
Zirkzee is reportedly done with United and wants a fresh start away from Old Trafford, though the club are yet to agree a deal with Roma, and there are no guarantees that a deal will be struck this January.
United’s asking price for the Dutch striker is in the region of £25m, while a loan deal with an option to buy is also on the cards.
As a precaution, Roma have searched the transfer market and picked out Tel as a potential alternative. The Frenchman has only scored five goals across his 33 appearances for Tottenham.
