Chelsea will make a late move for Alex Scott if Enzo Fernandez's move to rivals Manchester City does go ahead this week.
According to reports, Enzo Maresca is still set to bid for his top midfield target despite missing the Blues' initial deadline.
The AFC Bournemouth midfielder is seen as an instant replacement, despite already having a £64 million bid knocked back earlier in the window.
Chelsea remain hugely keen on Scott and are prepared to test the Cherries' resolve with another bid, though they remain adament that he is not for sale.

Aston Villa are getting desperate for reinforcements before next week's transfer deadline as they scramble to piece together a competitive squad for Unai Emery.
The Spaniard has had his Europa League-winning squad decimated and now has missed out on top defensive target Joel Ordonez to rivals Crystal Palace.
However, according to fresh reports, the Midlands side are now lining up a move for relegated West Ham United star Jean-Clair Todibo as a replacement for Ezri Konsa.
It's believed that Villa have enquired about the 26-year-old, who also has interest from Italy and France, while they have also seen a bid rejected for Southampton's Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Arsenal have joined the race to sign Marseille winger Igor Paixao in the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
However, reports suggest their pursuit won't be easy, with Sunderland and Villa also keen, while the Ligue 1 club are confident of keeping hold of the £42m-rated Brazilian.
Mikel Arteta has missed out on two left wingers already in Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Jr, and has now turned his attention to the 26-year-old after an impressive campaign.
Paixao registered 20 goal contributions in his debut season at OM, including five in just eight Champions League appearances, alerting the Gunners as they seek to upgrade Gabriel Martinelli.
