La Liga first goalscorer predictions for this weekend

Sevilla vs Real Sociedad first goalscorer: Isaac Romero (13/2)

Sevilla endured a miserable first half of the season but there are some positive signs at last under Quique Sanchez Flores and they’ll fancy their chances in this game with Real Sociedad not in good form.

The Andalusians have adopted a 3-5-2 system under the former Watford boss which functioned more as a 5-3-2 against Real Madrid last weekend. Either way, they are playing quite conservatively and are heavily reliant on a front two of Youssef En Nesyri and Isaac Romero for their goal threat. In fact, seven games have now passed in all competitions since any other player scored for Sevilla.

That strongly points towards one of the Sevilla front two as being a likely candidate to open the scoring here and you can get longer odds on Isaac Romero who has been a sensation since being plucked from the B team in January with five goals in nine appearances for the seniors so far.

Gerard Moreno

Villarreal vs Granada first goalscorer: Gerard Moreno (4/1)

Villarreal are another underachieving team that has shown glimpses of life in recent weeks. They are unbeaten in six games, a run that includes excellent wins away to Barcelona and Real Sociedad, so they’re clear favourites here at home to struggling Granada.

Their attacking talisman is Gerard Moreno, a classy forward who is capable of scoring and creating goals. Hamstring injuries have hampered Moreno in recent years with just 14 starts in each of the last two La Liga campaigns, but he’s mostly stayed fit this term and has looked sharp despite his team’s struggles.

The 31 year old is on 10 goals in La Liga, the latest of which came in the 5-3 thumping of Barcelona in February when he also had a strike ruled out by VAR. He’s scored some early goals too with three before the 30th minute while 55% of his goals in all competitions this season have come in the First Half which makes him a strong candidate when it comes to La Liga first goalscorer predictions.

Savio

Mallorca vs Girona first goalscorer: Savio (11/1)

While Artem Dovbyk is Girona’s main striker and the favourite to score first in this game, the Ukraine international is getting plenty of help from his team’s wingers who scored all the goals in the 3-0 rout of Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.

Viktor Tsyhankov opened the scoring while a brace from Savio put some gloss on the scoreline late on. The Brazilian teenager, who has agreed to join Manchester City in the summer, is having a brilliant campaign with nine goals from 30 appearances in all competitions.

The way Girona play ensures their wide players do get into lots of advanced positions and Savio was on target when he visited Mallorca in the Copa del Rey in January. Given the Balearic Islanders are quite a physical side, operating with three central defenders, they may fancy their chances of coping reasonably well with Dovbyk in this game but Savio’s speed and skill should ensure he’s a threat.

Athletic Club vs Barcelona first goalscorer: Robert Lewandowski (9/2)

Robert Lewandowski is now just 4/1 to end the season as La Liga’s top goalscorer, which is testament to his recent improvement in an otherwise unconvincing campaign. While he still has some catching up to do on Jude Bellingham who has 16 goals, Lewandowski is on 12 after bagging a brace in Barca’s last away game at Celta.

When he’s hot, Lewandowski rarely needs more than a second invitation to get his name on the scoresheet and with five in his last five games in all competitions, it does feel like the former Bayern Munich man is building up towards a strong end to the season.

This is actually a really tough game for Barca given Athletic haven’t lost at home in La Liga since the opening day of the season. However there may be a bit of fatigue in the home camp given Ernesto Valverde’s side play in the Copa del Rey Semi Finals on the Thursday night before this game. With Barca fresh from an impressive 4-0 win over Getafe, there’s a good chance it’s the visitors who net first here with Lewandowski the most likely candidate.
