Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Kovacic tipped to return to Madrid
Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for former Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, as Manchester City plan a squad revolution this summer.
That is according to Caught Offside sources, who add that the Croatian midfielder is also being chased by Fenerbahce.
Value (3.5/5): City slap reasonable price tag
City are ready to sell Kovacic for a fee in the region of £25million. Considering his skill sets and prior experience in La Liga, City's alleged demand is unlikely to push Atletico away.
Suitability (3.5/5): Excellent ball-carrier
Diego Simeone's side are filled with midfielders who are excellent out of possession but most of them lack the ability to progress the play from deep.
In that regard, the 30-year-old could be an excellent addition, owing to his tendency to carry the ball higher up the field by using his silky feet and physicality. A press-resistant machine.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Koke successor
Even though Koke remains Simeone's most reliable option when it comes to dictating the play from deep, the 33-year-old's legs are giving way. Kovacic could arrive as his direct replacement as he is equally comfortable and composed with the ball at his feet.
Logic (3.5/5): Return to Spanish capital
Kovacic's ties to Los Blancos may raise some eyebrows in Madrid but it is suggested the Croatia international is open to joining Atletico as he wants to continue plying his trade in Europe's top five leagues, ruling out a move to Turkey.
Whisper+ verdict: 17/25
City have reportedly already identified Ederson as Kovacic's replacement so any reasonable bid from Atletico should get the deal over the line.
