Klopp, when announcing his departure from Liverpool, had spoken of his fatigue, saying he was “running out of energy”. But since leaving in May, he seems to have recharged his batteries.

Astonishingly, Klopp has never gone more than a few months without a role in the beautiful game since his 1990 debut for Mainz. His new role is uncharted territory however, as he becomes Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer, overseeing their vast network of clubs and scouts.

What does ‘Head of Global Soccer' mean?

As well as making the world's most famous energy drink, Red Bull have also grown into a football powerhouse, and own majority stakes in five clubs around the world.

All five share the brand's distinctive design language and, more interestingly, a single footballing identity. Their quintet include Champions League regulars RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, MLS club New York Red Bulls and Brazilian pair Red Bull Bragantino and Red Bull Brasil.

Klopp's role as Head of Global Soccer is a broad one.

He will oversee all five clubs, not on a day-to-day basis, but more so fostering synergies, identifying and assessing talent, ensuring all clubs share a common strand of Red Bull DNA on the pitch and providing leadership for the group.

His role is something of a sweet spot on a personal level. It does not have the same draining demands of management that led him to end his time at Liverpool, but he still gets to have a huge impact on the game he has lived all his life.

Jurgen Klopp Red Bull salary: how much will the Liverpool legend earn?

As one of the most renowned minds in football, Klopp has never been poorly compensated for his work. His final Liverpool contract saw him net a cool £15m per season, making him one of the best-paid coaches in world football.

Klopp will not earn quite as much while at Red Bull, but his reported £10m per year is still substantially more than successor Arne Slot's £6.5m per season, and even eclipses what Erik ten Hag earns on his fresh Manchester United contract.
