Five most likely deadline day deals for January transfer window

With the January transfer window ticking towards its 7pm deadline on Monday February 2, 2026, clubs across Europe are scrambling to get last-minute deals over the line in their last chance to make additions in the 2025-26 season.

Deadline day is often associated with late twists, drama and frantic negotiations, with managers and club hierarchies desperate to add final reinforcements to their squad ahead of the final run of the campaign. With several major deals nearing their completion ahead of the shutting of the window, here are five transfers most likely to complete before Monday's deadline.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to complete the signing of Nigerian international winger Ademola Lookman from Atalanta prior to the shutting of the window on Monday evening.

Lookman, 28, arrived in Bergamo from RB Leipzig in 2022 for a fee in the region of €10m (£8.7m) and is now set to make the switch to the Spanish capital in a reported €40m (£34.7m) package.

In 137 appearances for the Italian outfit, the London-born winger has scored 55 goals and notched up 27 assists, including scoring all three goals in their triumphant 2023-24 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.

He has turned out 19 times for La Dea so far this term, scoring three goals alongside an Africa Cup of Nations campaign with Nigeria in which he provided three goals and four assists in his country's run to the semi-finals.

The move will be the first of the January transfer window for Atletico Madrid, who sit third in La Liga, 10 points behind leaders Barcelona, and have seen Conor Gallagher and Giacomo Raspadori depart in recent weeks.

Jean-Philippe Mateta – Crystal Palace to AC Milan

Following the loss of key defender and captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City in mid-January, Crystal Palace now look set to see striker Jean-Philippe Mateta head for the exit before the culmination of the January transfer window.

The French forward is nearing a move to AC Milan, having previously seen interest from Nottingham Forest, and was not included in the Eagles' squad to take on the latter in a Premier League contest on Sunday February 1, 2026.

Mateta has netted eight Premier League goals so far this season, taking his tally to 56 in 186 appearances in all competitions for the London club, including 30 in England's top flight across the prior two campaigns, helping his side to achieve Conference League qualification in the 2024-25 term.

AC Milan will bid to add to their attacking ranks in the hunt of Serie A leaders and city rivals Inter Milan, who sit eight points ahead of them, with only Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao having scored more than four league goals for I Rossoneri so far this season.

Jorgen Strand Larsen – Wolverhampton Wanderers to Crystal Palace

Somewhat in response to the expected departure of Jean-Philippe Mateta, but reportedly regardless of whether the Frenchman remains at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the season or not, Crystal Palace are likely to complete the capture of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen on deadline day.

The Norwegian is reportedly set to switch the Midlands for South London in a £48m deal, just seven months after making his loan from Celta Vigo to Wolves permanent in the summer.

That loan was a successful one in the 2024-25 term, as Strand Larsen netted 14 Premier League goals, but he has failed to hit such heights in the 2025-26 campaign thus far, netting just six goals in all competitions, three of which came in the FA Cup third round against fourth-tier Shrewsbury Town.

While Wolves boss Rob Edwards stated that the club were under no pressure to sell assets such as Larsen, despite their looming relegation to the Championship unless they are able to pull off a major escape, the Midlands outfit are said to be happy with the £47m offer.

With the capture, Crystal Palace likely have an eye on planning for life without Mateta, while also hoping to provide a boost in what has been a tough campaign, currently sitting 15th in the Premier League while competing in the UEFA Conference League.

Angel Gomes – Marseille to Wolverhampton Wanderers

In late 2024, Angel Gomes was making his first four senior caps for England during a successful start to the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season with Lille.

The former Manchester United midfielder's rise has not continued at the same rate since, though, having made a switch over the summer to Marseille, who are reportedly ready to loan him to Wolves on deadline day with a buy option for the English club.

Gomes, who has made 14 league appearances for Marseille this season, has seen just eight minutes of action across Les Olympiens' last six Ligue 1 outings, spending the rest of the time on the bench or out of Roberto De Zerbi's squad.

He is now set to complete a return to England on loan with Wolves, who are desperate for reinforcements in their shock Premier League survival bid, currently sat at the foot of the table on just eight points, 18 adrift of safety with just 14 games left to play.

Rob Edwards's side are believed to have a buy option in the deal for the English midfielder, with the chance to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of €7m (£6.1m).

Emil Holm – Bologna to Juventus

Juventus' January transfer window, their first under the management of Luciano Spalletti, has been a quiet one, with Jeremie Boga arriving as I Bianconeri's first addition on Monday February 1.

They are set to add a defensive reinforcement before the window shuts, though, with 25-year-old Emil Holm set to switch Bologna for Turin.

The 16-capped Sweden international joined I Rossoblu in the summer of 2024 from Atalanta for a fee of around €8m (£6.9m), and he is now set to head to the Italian giants on an initial loan deal with an unclear option to buy at the end of the season.

The deal will include Juventus right-back Joao Mario heading the other way to Bologna on loan for the remainder of the 2025-26 term, with Spalletti's side seeing the move as a clear upgrade in their Serie A title bid, currently trailing league leaders Inter Milan by 10 points but just two points behind second-placed AC Milan.
