Julian Alvarez may be fully focused on Argentina's bid to retain the World Cup, but speculation over his club future continues to gather pace ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Argentine forward helped his country reach the 2026 World Cup final after a 2-1 semi-final victory over England and is now just one win away from lifting football's biggest prize for the second consecutive tournament.

Despite his international commitments, Alvarez has been heavily linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid, with several of Europe's biggest clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

The former Manchester City striker has enjoyed an impressive spell under Diego Simeone, scoring 49 goals in 106 appearances across all competitions since arriving in Spain.

Given the shortage of elite strikers on the market, any move for Alvarez would likely come with a significant transfer fee.

Which club is most likely to sign Julian Alvarez?

At the moment there are only a few sides who seem likely to push for Alvarez's signature in the coming weeks.

Barcelona have emerged as the leading contenders, with reports suggesting the Catalan giants are preparing a £110 million (€130 million) bid once the World Cup has concluded.

Although Barcelona have already strengthened their attack with Anthony Gordon and are reportedly close to completing a deal for Karim Adeyemi, they are still believed to be keen on adding Alvarez to Hansi Flick's frontline.

However, Atletico Madrid are reluctant to lose one of their star players and would likely prefer not to strengthen a direct La Liga rival.

If Alvarez does decide to seek a new challenge, Diego Simeone's side could favour a sale abroad.

That could hand Arsenal an opportunity in their bid to sign the attacker.

The Premier League champions have regularly been linked with a move for Alvarez and are currently second favourites in the betting at 10/3, with Arsenal remaining one of the most realistic destinations should Atletico Madrid decide to sell, despite there reportedly being a sizeable gap between the two clubs' valuations.

Further down the market, Paris Saint-Germain are priced at 33/1.

The Champions League holders have a history of making marquee signings and, if their reported interest develops into a concrete approach, those odds could shorten significantly.

Although the two sides appear to be far apart in their valuations for Alvarez they are currently the second most likely side for him to go to.

Despite the growing transfer speculation, remaining at Atletico Madrid is still considered a realistic outcome.

The 26-year-old is currently priced at 7/4 to stay at the Metropolitano Stadium beyond the summer transfer window, making it the second-most likely scenario according to the bookmakers.
