Julian Alvarez is one player to watch ahead of the transfer deadline in a saga that has dragged through the whole summer.

The Argentine has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid have publicly stated that they will not sell him there.

This has potentially opened the door for Arsenal, but at the time of writing, Alvarez is “unlikely” to join them as reflected in our Football Whispers Index score.

Only time will tell whether the striker will change his stance, with Atletico reportedly demanding €150m (£128m) for his signature should Arsenal or another club swoop in.

Which club is most likely to sign Julian Alvarez?

Should Alvarez not stay at Atletico, Arsenal are the obvious candidates to sign him.

They have reportedly been pursuing him all summer and at the time of writing, have not given up on his signature before the deadline.

However, Alvarez seemingly needs persuading to join the Gunners, so this one does look unlikely as it stands.

Of course, Barcelona will always be in the race too, but it would take a dramatic U-turn for Atletico to suddenly be willing to sell to them, especially so late in the window.

In terms of outside clubs, Chelsea and Manchester City have recently been credited with interest, but Alvarez is reportedly not keen on a return to England for family reasons.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also held interest earlier in the window, but Atletico are reportedly reluctant to sell him to a LaLiga rival, while PSG have since strengthened in attack.
