We're bringing you our AFCON predictions for the second of Wednesday's Semi-Finals between the host nation Ivory Coast and one of the surprise packages, Congo DR. Despite largely poor performances, the host nation Ivory Coast have made it all the way through to the semi-finals of AFCON 2023 and are now the bookmaker's favourite to progress through to the final ahead of a Congo DR side that knocked out one of the favourites, Egypt.

Ivory Coast vs Congo DR prediction – Betting tips & odds

Hot Tip – Both Teams to Score

  • Both teams have scored in six of the last seven encounters between these two countries.
  • Four of Congo DR's five AFCON 2023 games have produced goals at both ends of the pitch.

Another reason why we're backing BTTS in this game is that the Ivory Coast have only kept one clean sheet at AFCON 2023 so far.

Ivory Coast vs Congo DR team news

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast looked like they were heading out of AFCON 2023 at the hands of Mali until Brighton's Simon Adingra scored a last-minute equaliser to make the scoreline 1-1 and send the match into extra-time. The host nation had played the majority of the game with ten men following Odilon Kossounou's sending-off just before halftime. Right at the end of extra-time, Ivory Coast substitute Oumar Diakite flicked home the winning goal to send the Ivory Coast fans into hysterics but the goalscorer was sen-off a minute later taking the hosts down to nine men. Mali then had a man of their own sent off in what was a crazy end to the match.

Odilon Kossounou and the hero of the quarter-final Oumar Diakite will both miss the Congo DR game due to suspension.

Predicted Lineup: Fofana (GK), Aurier, Konan, Ndicka, Singo, Gradel, Seri, Fofana, Kessié, Pépé & Kouamé

Congo DR

Congo DR's pathway through to the semi-finals proved a lot more simple than Ivory Coast's. Despite going a goal down in the twenty-first minute, Congo DR went in level at the break thanks to an equaliser from defender Chancel Mbemba and in the sixty-fifth minute, Yoane Wissa converted a spot-kick to put the Leopards in front. Former West Ham United defender Arthur Masuaku scored with eight minutes of the ninety remaining to confirm Congo DR's place in the semi-finals.

Meschack Elia was replaced in the fifty-ninth minute by Silas Katompa-Mvumpa and the Stuttgart man could replace Elia in the starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Predicted Lineup: Mpasi (GK), Mbemba, Masuaku, Kalulu, Inonga, Wissa, Moutoussamy, Pickel, Bakambu, Bongonda & Katompa Mvumpa

Player to Watch: Yoane Wissa

Wissa has led by example for COngo DR at AFCON 2023, never failing to put in maximum effort and creating lots of openings for his teammates.

The Brentford wide man top scores for Congo DR at AFCON 2023 with two goals and we're backing the 27-year-old to impress once again in the semi-finals.

Wiss may well end up with the Man-of-the-Match award on Wednesday as we could see this Congo DR side upsetting the odds, as well as the home fans, in this game.
