Inter Milan vs AC Milan H2H: Expect more Martinez magic

Inter Milan ‘host' AC Milan at their mutual home of the San Siro on Saturday evening, with both teams having made a perfect start to the new Serie A campaign. The two ancient rivals have scored eight goals apiece in their opening three games, while Inter are yet to concede, making this a tough call for anyone.

Inter Milan vs AC Milan H2H record

This will be the 204th Milan derby in its history, with Inter edging their rivals in terms of wins:

  • Inter Milan wins: 79
  • Draws: 61
  • AC Milan wins: 63

They first played each other in the 1929/30 season, with Inter winning the inaugural battle 2-1. The two Italian colossi have also met in the UEFA Champions League six times, most recently doing so in the 2022/23 knockout stage.

There have been many legends of the game to play for both sides, including Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, while Ukrainian icon Andriy Shevchenko is currently the all-time top scorer in the fixture with 14 goals.

Last time out…

Back in the spring, these two Italian giants battled it out on the biggest stage for a place in this year's Champions League final. Inter progressed to Europe's premier club-level showpiece for the sixth time in their history, via a 3-0 aggregate victory.

Lautaro Martinez (pictured below) scored the goal that sent the Nerazzurri faithful wild in the second leg, though they came up short against Manchester City in the final.

Inter Milan vs AC Milan H2H: Potential MVP

Martinez has picked up where he left off in that semi-final match, and is currently Serie A's top scorer with five goals. His record against AC Milan is also impeccable, netting eight times in 14 appearances.

Notably, he has only scored more goals against Cagliari (nine) in his entire club career, making him the primary pick amongst goalscorers in current Inter Milan vs AC Milan H2H betting tips.

The striker played twice for Argentina in recent FIFA World Cup qualification victories against Ecuador and Bolivia, but failed to find the back of the net, and so will be highly motivated to get back on the scoresheet against Inter's bitter rivals.

At this rate, he is well on course for his best scoring season in the Serie A, with 21 goals being his record over the past two campaigns.

Inter Milan: Players in focus

Benjamin Pavard – Eager to impress

Pavard could make his debut on Saturday, and what a game it would be to throw him into!

Lautaro Martinez – The goal machine

Martinez will be looking to add to his tally of 107 goals for Inter, but has never scored a hat-trick against AC Milan.

Marcus Thuram – More French fever

Another summer arrival, Thuram (pictured below) should also get his first taste of the Milan derby after a goal and two assists in Inter's 4-0 demolition of Fiorentina.

AC Milan: Players in focus

Christian Pulisic – Proving value for money

Pulisic has had a fine start to his AC Milan career, with two goals in his opening three games since arriving from Chelsea for £20m, and will look to cause Inter problems.

Rafael Leao – The star of the team

Leao has excited fans across the globe for a while now, and was linked with many big-money moves before signing a long-term contract in June.

Olivier Giroud – A seasoned veteran

At 36 years of age, Giroud continues to bang in the goals for the Rossoneri, and is second to Martinez in Serie A's top scorer list with four this campaign.

Final prediction

An entertaining score-draw is a distinct possibility. Expect both Martinez and Giroud to continue their fine goalscoring form in this one, and plenty of cards as tensions boil over between these two fierce rivals. Six yellows were given in their previous encounter, and a similarly high number would come as no surprise at all.

We're saying a 2-2 draw, with Martinez and Giroud to score.
