Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): The Sun isn't very reliable
Jack Grealish has accepted his career at Manchester City is over, as Pep Guardiola has consistently failed to find a spot for his record signing in his system. Now, Bayer Leverkusen are showing interest in signing the Englishman.
The story comes from The Sun, which adds Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are also interested in Grealish.
Value (2.5/5): Unrealistic demand
City are prepared to sell Grealish but they have slapped a £40million price tag on him. Considering how underwhelming the player has been over the last 24 months as well as his lucrative contract, it is very difficult to see Leverkusen spend such a figure on the 29-year-old.
Suitability (3.5/5): Good for possession-based side
If Erik ten Hag intends to build a side that dominates possession in the Bundesliga instead of playing more transitional football, akin to most teams in Germany, Grealish could prove to be a good signing as he is impressive at retaining possession and winning fouls in the final third.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Wirtz replacement
Leverkusen are expected to sell Florian Wirtz to Liverpool in a record move. It is claimed Ten Hag is a huge admirer of Grealish and told Leverkusen he could be the “perfect replacement” for Wirtz. We are not sure he would be able to mimic the Germany international's output though,
Logic (4/5): Fresh start
Grealish is open to moving abroad as he aims to make a fresh start and force his way back into the England squad. Leverkusen are set for a rebuild and if they build their side around the Englishman, Thomas Tuchel would certainly take notice.
Whisper+ verdict: 16.5/25
Grealish has the potential to become Leverkusen's next talisman but his wages and City's asking price should make the Bundesliga side think twice.
