After spending seven years at Arsenal in the Premier League, it appears that Gabriel Martinelli’s time at the North London club is over, as several European clubs have expressed interest in adding him to their squads.
Turkish giants Galatasaray were eager to secure Martinelli’s signature, but the Brazilian is not keen on making the move to the Super Lig.
As the transfer window moves swiftly towards its close on September 1, two clubs in Serie A have emerged as favourites to sign Martinelli.
Roma seem to be the favoured club at the moment, with Napoli not far behind their league rivals, which means if Arsenal accept both clubs’ transfer fees, the decision would lie entirely with the player as to whether he calls the Stadio Olimpico or the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona home for the upcoming season.

Transfer speculation around Gabriel Martinelli intensified after Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Manchester City in the Community Shield clash this past Sunday. The Brazilian winger did not feature in the squad, heightening expectations that he will depart North London this summer.
Galatasaray were initially looking like favourites to secure Martinelli’s signature, but it appears that the player does not consider that move a positive one for his career. Consequently, Roma have now taken the lead on that front with 11/8 odds that he ends up at the Giallorossi.
Fellow Serie A rivals, Napoli, are also interested in taking Martinelli to Italy, and they are not far behind at 7/4 to push the deal through. The winger performed reasonably well at the World Cup for Brazil and, at the age of 25, still has plenty to offer his next employers.
Spain seems to be a legitimate destination for the winger, with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid said to be an admirer of the player. As a result, Atleti have 7/2 odds of snatching Martinelli for themselves.
Arsenal are likely not to sell to a rival, but having dealt with Newcastle this summer for the signing of Bruno Guimaraes, it should not be ruled out that Martinelli ends up at the Toon at 5/1, as he would be an ideal replacement for Anthony Gordon.
With 62 goals in 278 first-team appearances for the Gunners, Martinelli is a clutch player and contributed his fair share in Arsenal’s title-winning season with 11 goals and seven assists.
