Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Sky's the limit
Half a season since departing the Premier League, Emerson Royal could be on his way back, as Fulham seek to sign him from AC Milan.
Sky Sports, well-known for their comprehensive transfer coverage, have broken this story about the former Tottenham defender.
Value (2.5/5): Milan hoping for profit
Milan are not said to want to sell Royal, but taking Kyle Walker on loan suggests he's not a huge part of their plans going forward.
They paid £12.65 million for him in the summer – under his market value – and the Brazilian has played 25 times this season. The Rossoneri will likely hold out for a profit if they are to lose him so soon into a four-year deal.
Suitability (4/5): A mixed record
In three years in North London after arriving from Barcelona, Royal's time in the Premier League was met with mixed reviews, but on his day he was an excellent full-back.
Fulham will be hoping it's his day more often than not, but at least he can provide decent cover for the injured Kenny Tete for the time being.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): Castagne top alternative
Tete's absence at right-back will be felt, but in Timothy Castagne, still only 29 and with over 50 caps for Belgium, Fulham have a back-up that is the envy of most clubs of their stature.
But, talking of international football, Royal's Milan performances saw him earn a recall to the Brazil squad, so the 26-year-old will fancy his chances of making the position his own.
Logic (2/5): No need to jump ship
Walker may be incoming, but not only does Royal stand a chance of keeping his place in the side, but the 26-year-old has the chance to compete for plenty of trophies between now and 2028, or beyond.
Fuham, though, will also be able to offer him something long-term, as Tete is out of contract in the summer.
Whisper+ verdict: 14.5/25
Fulham testing the waters with a bid in the coming days is not out of the question, but Royal wanting to give up UEFA Champions League football for a Premier League return so soon is questionable.
