Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Reports from both sides
Tottenham are hoping there is still a chance for Ansu Fati to live up to his potential, as they are aiming to sign the left-winger this month.
Reports in Spain have been backed up by English outlets, such as The Guardian, running the story, which adds some legitimacy, while West Ham are also interested.
Value (3.5/5): Value dropped along with form
Once seen as the next big star at the Camp Nou, injuries halted Fati's progress and he is now on the fringes of Hansi Flick's squad after an underwhelming loan to Brighton last season.
Valued at £68 million four years ago, he is now seen to be on the market for roughly 8.45 million. Perhaps a steal for Spurs, but with his injury record and poor form, is he even worth that?
Suitability (2/5): Better prepared for the PL?
Five goal involvements in 27 games for Brighton suggests he wasn't a total flop, and once again he missed a large portion of the season with a calf problem.
Perhaps he will be better prepared for the Premier League second time around, but the notoriously physical division is never a good idea for a player made of glass.
Upgrade? (3/5): A good option for next season?
Timo Werner's loan expiring will leave Son Heung-min as the only senior left-winger in the squad next season, by which time the Korean will be 33.
If he can stay fit, Fati can be a useful back-up to the club captain this season as well as next, given that Werner has not been in sparkling form.
Logic (2/5): Unlikely first choice
Given the plethora of wingers in the game today, Spurs are unlikely to make Fati one of their top choices after evaluating his recent record.
A return to the Premier League so soon after his hit-and-miss spell on the south coast would be a surprise first choice for Fati, either.
Whisper+ verdict: 13.5/25
This news is picking up traction, which would be less surprising if it were about West Ham, given their desperation for forwards, but we cannot rule it out for definite.
