Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3.5/5): Everton move for Barry
Everton have added Villarreal striker Thierno Barry to their wishlist and have already made an approach to explore the possibility of signing him this summer.
That is according to Cadena Ser, who add that Villarreal's intention is to keep Barry, who only moved to Spain from Basel last summer.
Value (3/5): Villarreal can't do much
Barry has four years left on his current contract and Villarreal see him as a key part of the project, and yet, there's little the Yellow Submarine could do, as the striker's contract includes a £ 33.66 million release clause.
Suitability (3.5/5): Menace in the box
The 22-year-old has incredible physical prowess and movement, allowing him to be a menace in the box. His finishing is also brilliant, underlined by his tally of 19 goals across all competitions this season.
Upgrade? (4/5): Calvert-Lewin replacement
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to depart the Merseyside outfit as a free agent this month. As such, Barry could arrive as his direct replacement and challenge Beto for the starting spot under David Moyes.
Logic (4/5): Journeyman
The Frenchman has represented four clubs since 2021, failing to stay in one place for more than a season. As such, it wouldn't surprise many if he decides to leave Villarreal should an opportunity to move to the Premier League arise.
Whisper+ verdict: 18/25
It should be easy to find an agreement with Barry, but Everton would have to trigger his considerable release clause to reach that stage.
