Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (3/5): Sky Sports often hit the mark

Harvey Elliott's lack of game time this season has put him on the radar of Brighton, who are considering a move for the England under-21 international, with Borussia Dortmund also interested.

This story was broken by Sky Sports, who still have some of the best inside information when it comes to transfers, even if the days of Jim White's yellow tie are long gone.

Value (2.5/5): Liverpool have time to get right price

Once the youngest player in Premier League history, Elliott's market value has barely wavered from £29.33 million since 2022, despite playing just 3% of Liverpool's league minutes this season, though that was not only down to Arne Slot, as the midfielder suffered a broken foot early on in the campaign.

Under contract until 2027 and seemingly still part of Slot's thinking, Liverpool won't let him go cheaply.

Suitability (4/5): Versatile and experienced for age

More recently used as a central or attacking midfielder, Elliott has played more games than anywhere on the right wing and has even featured on the left and further forward.

That versatility would come in handy for the Seagulls, as will his experience, having already played 128 times for the Reds and made over 80 Premier League appearances aged only 21.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Depends where Brighton want him

Brighton have already brought in Diego Gomez this winter after adding Matt O'Riley to their centre-midfield repertoire this season.

With Jack Hinshelwood injured, they could do with another body in the middle, while on the right, Yankuba Minteh has proven again that Brighton is one of the best in terms of recruitment, and Brajan Gruda provides sufficient back-up.

Logic (2/5): Still getting chances at Anfield

Elliott may want more starts, but featuring in the Reds' last five league games suggests he is at least in Slot's plans.

If he is to leave, the options in his positions available to Fabian Hurzeler won't greatly increase his chance of starting regularly, and a lot less likely to pick up winners' medals.

Whisper+ verdict: 14/25

There seems to be a good bit of substance behind this rumour, even if it doesn't seem to be the most logical move for the player.
