Arne Slot’s Anfield revolution could be set to take a dramatic turn, as Liverpool’s £85m star signing of summer 2022, Darwin Nunez, has been offered to Barcelona by super agent Jorge Mendes.

Nunez has divided opinion on Merseyside since his arrival, and his sale could help fund new signings, or make room for a new striking addition.

Darwin Nunez transfer: Player fans the flames

Speculation over Nunez’ future has reached fever pitch in recent days, as the Uruguay international has deleted all Liverpool related photos from his Instagram account.

However, he has posted photos of him catching up with his friend and Uruguay teammate Ronald Araujo, who happens to play for Barcelona.

Nunez has been controversial at Anfield. The 24-year-old had a tough time adapting to the Premier League in 2022/23, but has improved in 2023/24.

The former Benfica striker has 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, and has been key to Liverpool’s title charge.

However, he has not vanquished all his doubters. Nunez’ ability to get on the end of chances has never been in doubt, but his ability to take those chances very much has.

Since joining Liverpool, Nunez has underperformed his expected goals tally by nine, indicating a very erratic finisher.

With Arne Slot used to the ice-cold Santiago Gimenez’ finishing from his time at Feyenoord, he may not have patience for Nunez’ inconsistencies.

Darwin Nunez transfer: Destination Barca?

According to reports in Spain, Nunez has been offered to Barcelona by Jorge Mendes, should La Blaugrana find a new home for 35-year-old Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has no intention of leaving, but the Polish legend’s enormous wages are set to increase again this season.

With Barcelona’s well-documented financial issues, a player of his age on such a contract is extremely detrimental. If Barcelona can find a way to move him on, they will.

Nunez would be expensive up-front, as Liverpool would be reluctant to take a big loss on their £85m outlay, but Barca could always sweeten the deal with a player in exchange.
