Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2/5): Palace make Onyeka contact
Palace have reportedly made contact with Brentford over a potential deal to sign Onyeka when he completes his loan spell with Augsburg.
That is according to Africa Foot, who claim that the Eagles have made the midfielder one of their priority targets for the summer transfer window.
Value (3.5/5): Palace readying Onyeka bid
The same report states that Palace are weighing up whether to table a €12m (£10.3m) bid for Onyeka. While it is unclear whether Brentford would accept such a proposal, they are expected to listen to offers for a player who is under contract until the summer of 2027.
Suitability (2.5/5): Concern over Brentford struggles
Onyeka has enjoyed regular playing time during his loan spell with Augsburg, having started 25 of his 26 Bundesliga appearances this season. The 27-year-old has been impressive in Augsburg's defensive efforts, demonstrated by the fact that he is in the top 10 for tackles won in the Bundesliga in 2024-25, as per FBref.
However, Palace could have some concerns that he was loaned out after being deemed surplus to requirements at Brentford. The midfielder had to settle for just 11 starts in 26 Premier League appearances in the 2023-24 season after he found himself behind the likes of Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen and Vitaly Janelt in the pecking order.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): Competition for places
When everyone is fit, Onyeka would have to compete with Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma, Will Hughes and Adam Wharton, although the latter continues to be linked with a potential move away from Selhurst Park.
Logic (3/5): Regular game time assurances
Augsburg are not expected to pursue a permanent move for Onyeka, meaning he will have to find a new exit route out of Brentford this summer.
A move to Palace could appeal to the Nigeria international, but he will want assurances about regular game time. If Palace are unable to offer him that, Onyeka may look at alternative options ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Whisper+ verdict: 13.5/25
Onyeka could add depth to Palace's midfield options, but he may struggle to get a regular starting spot, which could deter him from joining the Eagles this summer.
