Vinicius Junior's future at Real Madrid has been the number one topic in recent months, and not only in the Spanish media. The 25-year-old forward has been struggling with a dip in form throughout the season, which naturally fuels various transfer theories.

There has long been talk of relentless interest from Saudi Arabia, but recently reports have also emerged linking the Brazilian star with a move to the English Premier League. The loudest talk concerned interest from Chelsea, who were reportedly prepared to break the bank and bring the player to Stamford Bridge.

However, these reports were firmly dismissed by the most famous football journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. He decided to set the record straight and denied that the London club were preparing any offensive to land the Brazilian winger.

Vinicius and Chelsea: No negotiations taking place

According to speculation, an astronomical sum was supposedly in play, but Romano categorically ruled out this information. “The story was about a €135m (£118.6m) offer to Real Madrid for Vinicius. What I can tell you is that it's not true. Chelsea have not sent any offer for Vinicius Junior,” the Italian journalist stated.

Romano further emphasised that the situation is calm looking ahead and no sudden twist is on the cards. “Chelsea are not planning to send any offer. Chelsea are not negotiating with Real Madrid.

Vini is not planning any January exit at this stage,” he explained, adding that the denial of this report is coming from all sides, “so the situation is absolutely, but absolutely untrue, from what I understand. It is being dismissed by people from the clubs and by the player.”

Contract as a ticking time bomb

Even though a current transfer is ruled out, Real Madrid do not have entirely peaceful sleep. Fabrizio Romano notes that although Vinicius is currently fully focused on his performances in a Los Blancos shirt, the question of his contract will have to be reopened in the coming weeks and months.

His current deal expires in less than 18 months, which is causing concern for club officials. There is a real risk that they could lose their star for nothing in summer 2027, a scenario Florentino Perez wants to avoid at all costs.

The second half of this season could be decisive for how this entire saga unfolds. Performances on the pitch will determine whether Real Madrid decide to do everything to reach an agreement on a new, improved contract.

If Vinicius can return to his best, electrifying form, keeping him would be a clear priority and a no-brainer decision for the club. However, if he continues his current unconvincing displays, the time may come when the club start seriously considering selling him while the player still holds high value on the market.
