Last week, it was officially confirmed that Liam Rosenior is taking the reins at Chelsea, having made a name for himself during a successful 18-month spell at Strasbourg in Ligue 1.

The new boss can now look forward to working with some of the Premier League's biggest talents, and he has nothing but words of praise for his new charges. He recently described Moises Caicedo as the best midfielder in world football and, in an interview with TNT Sports, also highlighted his midfield colleague. “What a fantastic player he is,” he gushed about Enzo Fernandez.

Although Chelsea have one of the strongest midfield pairings in England at their disposal, the club's ambitions stretch even further and Rosenior's arrival is intended to be a turning point. Reports from Spain are linking the Blues with an astronomical offer for Real Madrid stalwart Federico Valverde.

According to Fichajes, the London club have expressed a strong intention to sign the Uruguay international and are said to have tabled an offer of €120m (£105.4m). However, Real Madrid are in no rush to negotiate and Los Blancos' stance is uncompromising. “The message is clear. Only an unrealistic offer will force them to negotiate,” the Fichajes report states, adding that a deal will be very difficult.

Ideal profile for new style and Terry's appeal

For Rosenior, Valverde, who has made 25 appearances for Madrid this season, would represent the ideal piece of the puzzle, as his profile suits an intense, direct style of play and he has the ability to control various aspects of a match.

Stamford Bridge legend John Terry has also weighed in on the debate about the club's direction. Despite the club spending approximately £285m on signings last summer, Terry is urging the hierarchy to back the new coach in the January window as well.

“Hopefully the board and the owners will back him and give him the money to go into the transfer market and bring some players in,” the former captain said on TikTok, hoping that the situation at the club will finally stabilise and the manager and players can focus solely on football.

Terry also assured that the stands will be behind the new manager: “Listen, I'm going to speak for all Chelsea fans now, whoever the manager is… Chelsea fans will always support their manager and we will try to do the same on Wednesday.”
