Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): Chelsea keeping tabs on Bakwa
Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close eye on the progress of Strasbourg's Bakwa ahead of the summer transfer window.
That is according to Fussball Transfers, who claim that Eintracht Frankfurt are considering the winger as a potential target, having already held talks with the player's entourage over a potential move.
Value (3.5/5): Sister club advantage
While Frankfurt appear keen to sign Bakwa, Chelsea will have a clear advantage if they decide to pursue a summer move due to the fact that Strasbourg is their sister club.
The relationship between the two teams, which are owned by Blueco, could also give Chelsea hope that they could strike a deal for Bakwa below Strasbourg's current asking price.
The French side are believed to be looking for €30m (£25.8m) for a player who is under contract until the summer of 2027.
Suitability (3.5/5): Winger with potential
Bakwa is a left-footed attacker who tends to operate on the right wing. The France Under-21 international has made 24 Ligue 1 appearances this season, contributing four goals and eight assists – only three players have registered more assists in Ligue 1 in 2024-25.
The Strasbourg talent also likes to move with the ball at his feet, demonstrated by the fact he is in the top 10 for carries into the penalty area in Ligue 1 this term. At 22, Bakwa still has time to improve upon the weaker areas of his game, like his defensive work.
Upgrade? (3/5): Madueke replacement
Chelsea already have a couple of left-footed wingers who can play off the right flank in Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke. However, the latter has been linked with a potential move away from Stamford Bridge, and his departure would make room for a potential new arrival.
However, there may be some doubt as to whether Bakwa is ready to make the step up to a club that has aspirations of competing right at the top of the Premier League.
Logic (2.5/5): Premier League challenge
From the player's perspective, he may be open to the prospect of testing himself in the Premier League after making 67 Ligue 1 appearances during his time with Bordeaux and Strasbourg.
With that said, he also be tempted to stay at least one more season at Strasbourg, especially if they are successful in their attempt to secure Champions League qualification.
Whisper+ verdict: 15.5/25
The relationship between the two clubs will be beneficial if Chelsea decide to pursue a move. However, we are unsure as to whether they will step up their interest in the upcoming summer transfer window.
