Cardoso recently agreed to extend his contract at Betis until the summer of 2030. Still, Spurs have the option to sign him for around £20.8 million at the end of the season. Further, Romano adds that if the North Londoners don't activate the clause by the end of June 2025, they will still have matching rights for the USMNT international. Fair to say, Daniel Levy secured a very lucrative deal.

The highly-rated 23-year-old defensive midfielder possesses unique athleticism and positional awareness. He would be an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou's high-intensity football, which often leaves Spurs midfielders isolated.

Yves Bissouma has been an underwhelming midfield presence under Postecoglou. He has looked promising in possession, but without the ball at his feet, he has looked out of place and shaky in duels. Cardoso seems to be ready to replace the 28-year-old Spurs midfielder.
