Bournemouth vs Chelsea H2H: Can Sterling sink the Cherries again?

Chelsea will be hoping for a fresh start following the international break after a shaky opening to Mauricio Pochettino’s reign. They face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday in a 14:00 kick-off on the South Coast.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea H2H Record

There have only been 19 previous meetings between Bournemouth and Chelsea in all competitions.

  • Bournemouth Wins: 5
  • Draws: 1
  • Chelsea Wins: 13

12 of those meetings have come in the Premier League since Bournemouth won promotion to the top flight in 2015. The Cherries won the first Premier League fixture between the clubs thanks to a goal from Glenn Murray.

However Chelsea won on their first three Premier League visits to Bournemouth before suffering a 4-0 defeat on this ground in 2018/19. Despite a dreadful season overall, Chelsea did win both meetings last term with new Barcelona signing Joao Felix on target as the Blues won here only a few months ago.

Last time out…

Chelsea made it 4 wins from 6 Premier League trips to Bournemouth with a 3-1 win here in May. Conor Gallagher opened the scoring early on for the visitors before Matias Viña struck for the hosts.

With the game seemingly heading towards a draw, Chelsea fired in two late goals to hand Frank Lampard the one and only win of his second spell in charge of the Blues.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea H2H: Potential MVP

One man who may be relishing this fixture is Raheem Sterling. He boasts an excellent career record against Bournemouth with 11 goals and 4 assists in his previous 14 matches against the side from the South Coast.

The winger scored a hat-trick in his first ever Premier League game against Bournemouth when he was at Manchester City. That started a sequence where Sterling scored against them in six straight league matches.

He also netted a brace for Liverpool in a League Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth back in 2014 but is yet to score against them in a Chelsea shirt.

That being said, Sterling was influential in the two meetings last season. He registered an assist in each match despite only coming on as a substitute on Chelsea’s last visit to this ground.

Bournemouth: Players in focus

David Brooks

The Welshman is pushing for a start after scoring for his country during the international break. Brooks starred with a goal and an assist in Bournemouth’s 4-0 win over Chelsea five seasons ago.

Dominic Solanke

The Bournemouth forward has been on the losing side in 3 of his 4 previous meetings with Chelsea and is yet to score against them.

Justin Kluivert

Kluivert followed his new boss Andoni Iraola in moving from La Liga to the Premier League this summer and has featured in every game so far.

Chelsea: Players in focus

Cole Palmer

After making a surprise late move to Chelsea from Man City, Palmer is pushing for his full Premier League debut for his new club.

Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson has scored once in 4 Premier League matches for Chelsea since moving from Villarreal.

Levi Colwill

Final Prediction

Andoni Iraola had a track record for upsetting the bigger clubs at home during his time as Rayo Vallecano boss and he’d love to repeat that trick in England. Chelsea are clearly vulnerable right now after a home defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out but they have more than enough quality in their squad to get something from this game.

We’re saying 2-2 with Sterling to score the first goal.
