The Premier League’s riches and prestige have attracted the world’s finest players for decades now.

From title challengers, all the way down to mid-table, the Premier League is littered with stars in every position and every role.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the best Premier League players by position.
Best Premier League players 24/25: our picks
Goalkeeper: Alisson
Kicking things off is Liverpool’s number one, Alisson. The Brazilian has been near perfect since his £67m move from Roma back in 2019.
Alisson is a truly complete goalkeeper. The 31-year-old does all the things you would expect of a modern stopper: he is aggressive when sweeping up balls in behind and crosses into the box and superb with his feet.
But what make Alisson the best, and better than his competitors is the ability to blend these modern aspects of goalkeeping with heroic old-school shot-stopping.
Since joining Liverpool, the Brazilian has a post-shot expected goals differential of +24.4, meaning that he has stopped 24 more goals than the average goalkeeper would be expected to.

Defence: William Saliba
Pipping Alisson’s Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk is Arsenal’s young star William Saliba.
Van Dijk has arguably been the best Premier League centre-back ever, but young Saliba was better in 2023/24.
Saliba played every minute leading an Arsenal defence that conceded five fewer goals than anyone else. The Frenchman is near impassable, and no Premier League defender has been dribbled past less than him since he joined the league.
If Saliba defeats Wolves on Saturday, he will be the fastest Gunner ever to 50 Premier League wins, achieving the feat in just 67 games.
Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne
The likes of Martin Odegaard and Phil Foden may take his place one day, but Kevin De Bruyne still has the throne.
De Bruyne has a strong argument to make the all-time Premier League XI. The Belgian has won six of the last seven league titles with Manchester City, and is showing no signs of slowing down.
The 33-year-old, has a mind-boggling 110 assists in 257 league appearances, as well as 68 goals. He is one of the finest passers of a ball ever seen, with both his feet capable of finding anyone, anywhere.
Despite missing half of last season through injury, De Bruyne arguably won the Premier League for City once again, averaging a goal contribution every 87 minutes after his return.

Wing: Mohamed Salah
Another older player still lighting up the Premier League is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian is a true Premier League great, despite just one league title. The 32-year-old’s consistency since his 2017 move is startling.
Salah scores or assists every 94 Premier League minutes, with another 18 goals and 10 assists added to his huge tally last season.
Bukayo Saka is hot on Salah’s heels, but cannot match the Liverpool icon’s output quite yet.
Attack: Erling Haaland
Finally, up top there can only be one, and his name is Erling Haaland.
The big Norwegian may not be as complete as other Premier League strikers, but his goalscoring numbers speak for themselves.
The 24-year-oldhas scored at a rate better than a goal a game since he made the switch to Manchester City in 2022, and obliterated the Premier League’s top scorer record with a 36-goal debut season.
He has also scored a ridiculous six Premier League hat-tricks in just two seasons. Goals win games, and Haaland is the best at getting them.
