Best Assistant Managers FM 23: Our Top 5

Whether you rely on them for opposition instructions, team talks or to handle the press, the Assistant Manager is one of the most important members of staff at your club.

In Football Manager, the Assistant Manager acts as you when you can't be bothered to do a certain job. Don't like dealing with the press? Send in your Assistant Manager. Are training plans boring? Send in your Assistant Manager! You get the idea.

The Assistant Manager is also like your personal managing friend, bringing them with you as you change jobs, and building up a real partnership with them. So, with that in mind, let's look at some of the best Assistant Managers in FM23.

Best Assistant Managers FM 23

Below are our 5 best picks for Assistant Managers in FM23. Most of these should be easy to pick up for anyone playing in a top league, but it's well worth tracking the progress of all five of these picks.

Edd Vahid

Also featured in our FM 24 shortlist of assistant managers, Vahid is more suited in-game to being a Head of Youth Development, but that makes him the ideal member of staff for an Assistant Manager.

With high motivating, people management and judgement, he's a cracking member of staff to add to your backroom arsenal. He is let down by his tactical knowledge, but that's fine provided you don't plan to let him pick your tactics.

Neil Bath

You'll notice a theme here with Heads of Youth Development being an ideal Assistant Manager. The downside here is that Bath's at Chelsea when you begin a new FM 23 save. So you might need to be at a top club to grab him, but he's worth the investment.

Bath's similarity to Edd Vahid – but with the additional perk of a higher Tactical Knowledge rating – means you could use him to cover for you if you really just want to do the transfers.

As an overall pick, Neil Bath is probably the best, but he will be harder to get.

Philipp Laux

Employed by Dortmund at the start of the game, but only as a coach making him a lot easier to grab. The game won't rate him that highly as an Assistant Manager but his stats don't lie.

Laux maxes out on motivating, and comes just one shy in people management which is key if you plan to use him to handle the press and team talks. Laux isn't as good at judging players as the former two, however, he's more than serviceable considering his other stats.

Hermann Gerland

Another unemployed option here, Gerland is also a 3-star rated Assistant Manager, making him a natural in the role. Much like before, his tactical knowledge is a little low, but he's really strong across the board.

Gerland is probably the easiest to sign for most clubs, especially given his unemployed position at the start of the save.

Paolo Morganti

Starting out once again as a Head of Youth Development, Morganti is one hell of an Assistant Manager option. With max stats in motivating, people management, and judging player ability and potential, Morganti is a must-sign.

His tactical knowledge is a slight letdown, but if you can see past that then you have one of the best Assistant Managers FM 23 can offer on your hands.
