- AC Milan set asking price for Leao as exit seems imminent
Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4.5/5): Reliable source could be spot on with price
Leao has been heavily linked with an exit from AC Milan since the start of the summer due to the Portuguese winger's strained relationship with Rossoneri boss Paulo Fonseca. Barcelona have been interested in signing a left-winger since last season as they look to continue their rise back to the top of the footballing world, and after failing to bring in Nico Williams, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has now set his eyes on Leao.
Mundo Deportivo have now revealed that AC Milan have set a price tag of between €80 million and €90 million for the winger.
Value (2.5/5): Barcelona's economic troubles to cause troubles
Barcelona's financial and economic troubles have been very heavily recorded and the price tag of over €80 million may not be very attainable for the Catalan side. Additionally, Leao is sure to demand a huge wage if he does secure a move away from AC Milan.
Suitability (3/5): Left-sided talent fits perfectly into back three
Leao might have been a very good fit for Xavi Hernandez's Barcelona, however, under Hansi Flick, Barca have moved away from having touchline wingers in favour of tight wide-men who can charge into the box as the full-backs bombard the wings. As such, Leao, while on top form, may not fit into Flick's plans.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): Raphinha's form way too good
Raphinha has arguably been the best player in the world this season as the Brazilian has formed a formidable trio with Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal. Since the start of the year, Raphinha will be very hard to displace in this Barcelona side for Flick despite how good Leao may be.
Logic (2/5): Other moves on the table for Leao
According to recent reports, Leao's dream is to move to Barcelona. However, the Portuguese winger may not have the best of times under Flick, and Raphinha's stronghold over the left wing is hindering his development.
Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also shown interest in the winger, and as such, both of those clubs could present better chances to Leao as he looks to continue his progress.
Whisper+ final verdict – 14.5 /25
Leao's agent Jorge Mendes will be a key member in any deal that goes through with Barcelona as the agent is a close friend of Laporta and sporting director Deco. However, the deal would be better off not taking place as Barcelona look to continue their progress under Flick and Leao may fare better off staying away from sunny Catalonia.
