Who are the Aston Villa most expensive signings? The Villans have splashed the cash this summer after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, and some of those new purchases feature in the top five.

They may not be done as well, as there are still plenty of reported transfer targets that could make the move to Villa Park. Nonetheless, here are the top five most expensive Villa signings of all time…

1. Amadou Onana – £50m

Onana became Villa's record signing after joining from Everton in this summer transfer window for £50m. The central midfielder has made a positive impact on the Premier League, which has prompted Unai Emery's men to spend so much money on him.

Onana managed four goals and three assists in 72 appearances in total over competitions at Goodison Park, but his game is more than just goals and assists, as his height and physical presence allow him to bully opponents in the middle of the park. The 22-year-old has also broken through into the Belgian national team and will link up with fellow international teammate at Villa Park.

2. Moussa Diaby – £43m

It is hard to believe that Diaby is Villa's second-most expensive signing of all time after surviving just one season at Villa Park. The tricky winger managed just 10 goals in 54 appearances over all competitions last season and has been sold to Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad.

3. Ian Maatsen – £37.5m

Another new signing this campaign makes the list, as Maatsen joins from Chelsea for £37.5m, with youngster Omari Kellyman heading the other way for £19m. The left-back impressed while on loan at Borussia Dortmund last term, helping them reach the Champions League final, where the Bundesliga outfit unfortunately lost out 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium.

4. Emi Buendia – £33m

Buendia is the least recent signing on this list, having joined Villa from Norwich City in the 2021 summer transfer window. The Argentine came with a great reputation having scored 24 goals and made a further 42 assists in 121 matches in total across all competitions for the Canaries, helping them win promotion from the EFL Championship up to the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Buendia's time at Villa so far has been scuppered by injury problems, but the 27-year-old will be hoping to be injury-free for the upcoming season, especially with Villa competing in the Champions League as well as the English top flight.

5. Pau Torres – £31.5m

Last on our list is Torres, whom Emery knew very well from his time managing Villarreal. Villa signed the central defender from the La Liga club for a reported £31.5m last summer, and he was key in helping the Villans ensure Champions League football for this season.

The Spaniard is accomplished on the ball and helps Villa in build-up play with his ability to play from the back. He also contributed a couple of goals last season, showing that he can be a threat in both boxes.
