Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2.5/5): Sensationalization the name of the game
Aston Villa have had a mixed start to the Premier League season but Unai Emery’s side have shown impressive signs as well. However, the Villains are looking to build a squad for the future and with Diego Carlos’ future uncertain, they are considering new signings.
Spanish publication Fichajes have reported that Aston Villa are eyeing a move for Osasuna’s Boyomo in the summer of 2025 as they look to strengthen the squad.
Fichajes’ stories generally are a bit more off-target than they are on-target. As such, the report must be taken with a pinch of salt.
Value (4/5): Cheap deal for the promising defender
The report does not mention how much Osasuna will demand to part ways with the French-born centre-back next year. As per Transfermarkt, the Cameroon international is rated at €10 million (£8.34m).
However, considering Boyomo’s contract situation and age profile, Aston Villa might need to pay a premium to sign the 23-year-old centre-back in the 2025 summer transfer window.
Suitability (4.5/5): A defender Emery needs
Boyomo has a similar profile compared to Carlos and Tyrone Mings, sharing a number of traits with the two. He is not a ball-playing centre-back but that is not the current demand. Aston Villa have with Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa already settled in at the club and not seeming likely to depart anytime soon.
Upgrade? (2/5): A signing for the future
Boyomo is not necessarily going to be a starter in most cases for Emery as the Spaniard has been working with sporting director Monchi to search for a potential promising centre-back who can develop at the club and then progress into a full-fledged starter at the club.
The Cameroonian will likely battle with the likes of Lamare Bogarde and Kortney Hause for sporadic minutes through the first season but won’t have regular minutes for Villa.
Logic (5/5): Big move for the centre-back
Boyomo has been very impressive for Osasuna since his move to El Sadar Stadium from Real Valladolid in the summer. However, development is not the priority for Los Rojillos as they are likely to battle for Europe this season if their current form continues. As such, a drop in form could see Boyomo dropped from the starting eleven.
A move to Aston Villa would greatly benefit Boyomo. He would not have the added pressure of constantly performing in every game and would have time to develop under a highly rated manager like Emery.
Whisper+ final verdict – 18/25
While Aston Villa have been a smooth-running operation over the past few years, there is a constant need to improve for the Villains and making a potential signing such as Boyomo would greatly aid the Premier League side as they aim to challenge the top six in the Premier League.
As such, if the negotiations with Osasuna go swimmingly, they need to do their best to complete the signing for Boyomo.
