Authenticity (3/5): Arsenal set their sights on Gyokeres
Arsenal‘s pursuit of Alexander Isak is not going to go too far, as Newcastle United are set to hand their talisman a new contract. The Gunners, without wasting much time, are now exploring the possibility of signing Isak's fellow countryman, Viktor Gyokeres.
The story comes from The Sun, who underline a new striker is at the very top of Arsenal's transfer wishlist.
Value (3.5/5): Sporting lower their demands
While Newcastle slapped a £150million price tag on Isak, Sporting CP are willing to part ways with their star forward for a much lower fee. It is claimed that the Portuguese outfit would be open to lowering their initial £85million asking price to around £59million.
Suitability (4.5/5): Goal-machine
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe, thanks to his decision-making, physicality, and most importantly, ability to finish with either foot. The Sporting number nine has bagged an impressive 44 goals in as many appearances across all competitions this term.
Upgrade? (4.5/5): Much-needed arrival
Arsenal trumped Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals without any strikers. However, that is unlikely to change the North Londoners' transfer plans.
The absence of a reliable goalscorer has played a big part in derailing their title charge, and the club's hierarchy appears determined to not repeat the mistakes of previous windows. Targeting Gyokeres is certainly a good start.
Logic (4/5): Big move
Arteta has turned Arsenal into one of Europe's strongest sides, capable of challenging for the biggest trophies. Accordingly, Gyokeres would certainly relish the opportunity to move to the Emirates and show his goalscoring prowess at the highest level.
Whisper+ verdict: 19.5/25
Gyokeres is clearly a more attainable target than Isak but Arsenal need to act swiftly to avoid competition.
