Authenticity (4/5): Romano shares Sesko update
Arsenal have started working on bringing Mikel Arteta a new striker, having opened “initial concrete talks” to sign RB Leipzig goalscorer Benjamin Sesko, who is highly rated by Arteta, the club's recruitment team, and management.
The story comes from Fabrizio Romano, who is the go-to source for European transfer exclusives.
Value (3/5): Expensive striker
Leipzig resisted selling the 21-year-old last summer as well as in January despite Arsenal's interest. They are expected to be open to his departure this time but expect the Bundesliga giants to demand north of £70million for their number nine, who has 13 league goals this term.
Suitability (3.5/5): Diamond in the rough
The Slovenian is one of the most exciting striker prospects, owing to his incredible physique and ferocious ball-striking. However, he has yet to establish himself as a consistent goalscorer. Arteta would have to work on his movement and decision-making to turn him into an elite goalscorer.
Upgrade? (4/5): Challenge for Havertz
Considering Sesko's rawness, he is not going to start ahead of Kai Havertz from the get-go. As such, expect him to play second fiddle to the German at the Emirates. Late in games, Arteta could also use both Havertz and Sesko at the same time to unlock rigid defences.
Logic (4/5): Long time coming
Sesko has been on the radar of Premier League clubs ever since his RB Salzburg days. He is still young but it seems it is the right time to take the next step and polish his game under a top manager like Arteta.
Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25
It might not be difficult to agree terms with Sesko but striking a deal with Leipzig is never a cakewalk.
