Aaron Ramsdale next club betting: Odds shorten on sensational Chelsea defection

Aaron Ramsdale has found himself in a precarious position this season having been relegated to the bench following the summer arrival of David Raya. Mikel Arteta insisted there wasn't a number one, but Ramsdale has started just four games all season, so Raya is the preferred keeper.

With Euro 2024 just around the corner, Ramsdale needs to be playing regular first-team football if he wishes to have a chance of becoming England's number one. So, we're going to look into the betting market and see which teams he could join this month.

Chelsea surge to favourites for Ramsdale

When a top-class player becomes available on the market, Chelsea are usually one of the clubs being linked to them. This is no different with Ramsdale, especially given that Robert Sanchez went down injured last month and has an unclear return timescale.

The injury to Sanchez has seen back-up shot-stopper DjordePetrovic be called upon and done reasonably well, however, he was signed to be a number two, otherwise, Sanchez wouldn't have been signed in the summer.

So, Ramsdale's availability will certainly have people interested in and around Stamford Bridge. However, it would reportedly take an ‘astronomical bid; for the Gunners to sell him this month, although the Blues certainly aren't short of cash.

Newcastle United may be forced into the goalkeeper market

Newcastle United have been hit the most by injuries this season which coincides with added fixtures due to their involvement in the Champions League. Nick Pope went down last year with a bizarre shoulder injury when not even making a save, and all eyes turned to Eddie Howe and the board as to what they would do.

As of right now, they seem unlikely to move due to Financial Fair Play regulations and the fact Martin Dubravka appears to be settled in the side, but Howe knows Ramsdale from their time together at Bournemouth which makes this an interesting prospect for the England international.

Chelsea – 3/1 (7.0)

Chelsea are favourites at 3/1 but it does seem more likely that Ramsdale leaving the Emirates even temporarily this month is highly unlikely. It has been reported in recent days that Arsenal are not open to offers unless they are ‘astronomical'.

Chelsea could do with an upgrade on Sanchez anyway as he's kept a clean sheet in just 18.8% of the Premier League games he's been involved in this season. This is the worst he's ever done since coming into the league back in 2020. However, they have more pressing needs in their squad to improve than the goalkeeper.

Newcastle – 3/1 (9.0)

A few weeks ago, St James' Park looked to be the most likely landing spot for Ramsdale. Newcastle needed a new number-one keeper and a potential upgrade on Pope before his injury anyway, but this would've allowed the Magpies to move on from him in a natural way.

FFP has certainly put a stop to that though, especially when a new central midfielder and a winger appeared to be nearer the top of their list. Ramsdale could have been the number one at Newcastle for years to come but they won't be splashing out the transfer fee required to secure his services this month.

If Ramsdale is still available come the summer, however, then Newcastle may make a more aggressive move, especially as Arsenal will have signed Raya permanently and Ramsdale will know he has to get out of the Emirates for his benefit.

Wolves – 10/1 (11.0)

Jose Sa has been a reliable shot-stopper for Wolves since he replaced fellow countryman Rui Patricio. However, under Gary O'Neil, they are said to be in the market for a new keeper, although it may wait until the summer.

Wolves have been impressive under O'Neil and if they can mount a late push for a Europa Conference League spot they may convince Ramsdale to join.

Ramsdale has the taste of European football from his time at Arsenal and wants to challenge at the top, so dropping down to Wolves is unlikely as it would cost them a lot and couldn't likely match his ambitions.
