Group K at the World Cup is underway, and it has not been the start that Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo would have been hoping for.

Roberto Martinez's men were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo, and in truth, it was not a performance that you would associate with a team that has a chance of going all the way this summer.

In the other group game, Colombia overcame Uzbekistan, which means they lead the group heading into the second round of fixtures.

Below, Football Whispers breaks down Group K in full, including the upcoming fixtures, latest odds and predictions.

World Cup 2026 Group K winner odds

  • Colombia – 10/11
  • Portugal – 5/6
  • DR Congo – 14/1
  • Uzbekistan – 100/1

Portugal were the odds-on favourites to top Group K before a ball was kicked, but they are now effectively even money along with Colombia. The outcome of this will almost certainly come down to which team comes out on top in the match between the two teams on matchday three.

World Cup 2026 Group K qualification odds

  • Colombia – 1/50
  • Portugal – 1/33
  • DR Congo – 8/11
  • Uzebkistan – 4/1

Portugal are no longer the favourites to qualify from Group K, but they are still almost certain to make it, unless they drop points to both Uzbekistan and Colombia. DR Congo have given themselves a fighting chance of qualifying from Group K, but Uzbekistan have it all to do.

2026 World Cup Group K predictions and betting angles

Portugal

There are so many football legends set to appear in their final-ever FIFA World Cup this summer, and at the age of 41, you can surely include Cristiano Ronaldo in that list.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward is competing in his sixth World Cup summer and is desperate to become the only man in history to score in six separate editions of the tournament.

If Portugal are to go far, then it cannot be all about him, but there were worrying signs on matchday one.

Bruno Fernandes came into the tournament on the back of his best-ever season, while the likes of Bernardo Silva, Vitinha, Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes give them the kind of star power that must be utilised more. Could Ronaldo be dropped for their next match?

Colombia

Portugal's most dangerous opponents in Group K are undoubtedly Colombia. The South American outfit are competing in their first World Cup since 2018, where they were knocked out by England via a penalty shootout in the round of 16.

Naturally, the squad eight years later is rather different to the one that competed in Russia, but after a strong showing in South American qualifying, where they took four points from two matches against the world champions, Argentina, they should be confident.

This group of players also went toe-to-toe with Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final before ultimately losing in extra time. Regardless, they are an outfit that should be feared this summer.

We are backing them to comfortably make it out of Group K and make it through at least one knockout round. Bayern Munich's Luis Diaz will be key to them achieving this prediction.

DR Congo

DR Congo are enjoying their second-ever World Cup appearance and their first in over 50 years this summer.

Ranked 56th in the world, expectations are certainly low for Sebastien Desabre's side, particularly as they failed to make it past the round of 16 in the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

They qualified for the World Cup thanks to a playoff victory over Jamaica, with Axel Tuanzebe scoring the winner in extra time.

They performed well against Portugal on matchday one, and on another day, they could have taken all three points.

Uzbekistan

This is Uzbekistan's first-ever World Cup appearance, and they are already off the mark in terms of goals, following Abbosbek Fayzullaev's strike against Colombia.

They finished as runners-up to Iran in their qualifying group, but lost just one of their 10 qualifying matches, which suggests they are not the type of side to just roll over.

Their goal this summer remains to try to win one match and see where that takes them.

Final Group K prediction

  1. Portugal
  2. Colombia
  3. Uzbekistan
  4. DR Congo

Group K best bets

The only bet worth taking on in Group K is Uzbekistan to qualify at 4/1. They have displayed good form prior to the tournament and competed well against Colombia. They are good enough to beat DR Congo, and given how poor Portugal looked, they could even take something from that match, too.
