Group H at the 2026 FIFA World Cup features four nations from four different continents, encapsulating what this tournament is and should be all about.

The two standout teams in the group are the reigning European champions, Spain, and Marcelo Bielsa's Uruguay. While those two are expected to battle it out for top spot, Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia will be dreaming of sneaking through to the knockout stages by finishing as one of the strongest third-placed sides.

Football Whispers breaks down Group H in full, including fixtures, latest odds and predictions.

World Cup 2026 Group H winner odds

  • Spain – 1/4
  • Uruguay- 7/2
  • Saudi Arabia – 16/1
  • Cape Verde – 50/1

Spain are considered massive favourites to win Group H, which isn't all that surprising when you consider they are also the favourites to win the entire tournament.

Uruguay's price of 7/2 is interesting, as the top spot will almost certainly come down to the match between Spain and Uruguay in Mexico, where conditions will favour the South Americans.

Beyond that, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde have been given little chance.

World Cup 2026 Group H qualification odds

  • Spain- 1/80
  • Uruguay – 1/12
  • Saudi Arabia – 5/6
  • Cape Verde – 15/8

You may as well book Spain and Uruguay's places in the round of 32, but the Saudi situation is far less clear-cut. The bookies are effectively saying that it's a coin toss on whether they will make it out of the group, and if they do, it will almost certainly be as one of the best third-placed teams.

Cape Verde's qualification odds of 15/8 are very generous, as they will need to keep scorelines down against Spain and Uruguay and beat Saudi Arabia. For our money, 15/8 is far too short on those three things all happening.

2026 World Cup Group H predictions and betting angles

Spain

Spain come into the 2026 World Cup in the best shape they have been in since 2010, when they famously won the tournament for the first time in their history.

Like the 2010 squad, the strengths in this squad lie in midfield. Any three of Rodri, Martin Zubimendi, Pedri, Gavi, and Fabian Ruiz would create the best midfield at the tournament, which is worrying for all other nations this summer.

If there is one weak area in the team, then it is in the forward areas. Yes, Lamine Yamal is a superstar, but beyond him, there isn't an awful lot that will concern opponents.

Despite that, their tournament know-how and midfield dominance should see them get to the semi-finals at the very least.

Uruguay

Marcelo Bielsa will get a third crack at the FIFA World Cup this summer, after managing Argentina in 2002 and Chile in 2010.

His Uruguay side performed well during qualifying, finishing in fourth position in the South American round robin. As part of their campaign, they recorded an impressive 2-0 away win against Argentina and also picked up four points from a possible six against Brazil.

While there were also some poor performances thrown in, how they generally perform against the biggest sides should give them plenty of confidence ahead of the World Cup, where they will have to beat elite sides if they are to go deep.

We can see them making it out of Group H as runners-up and making it all the way to the quarter-finals.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia gave a good account of themselves at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with their 2-1 victory over Argentina in the group stages one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history.

Four years later, they will have their eyes set on two more scalps against Spain and Uruguay, while qualification to the knockout stages will be their ultimate dream.

In truth, their form coming into the tournament isn't that of a team capable of pulling off any upsets this time around. They have lost four of their last five matches and have sacked the man who masterminded the Argentina victory, Herve Renard

Cape Verde

This will be Cape Verde's first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup, and nobody can say they don't deserve to be there.

The nation's manager, Bubista, has done a remarkable job and led them to first place in their CAF qualifying group, ahead of the likes of Cameroon, Libya and Angola.

Bubista has made them robust at the back, but that will well and truly be tested this summer, particularly in the matches against Spain and Uruguay.

Final Group H prediction

  1. Spain
  2. Uruguay
  3. Saudi Arabia
  4. Cape Verde

Group H best bets

There is no value in backing Spain to win the group or qualify, making Saudi Arabia to qualify as the only worthwhile outright bet for Group H. Playing Cape Verde in their final match means they will know exactly what they need to do against the weakest team in the group to qualify, which is an excellent position to be in.
