Following an excellent start to Group E for Germany and the Ivory Coast, qualification for the knockout stages of the World Cup is already within touching distance for both nations.
Meanwhile, for Curacao and Ecuador, the road to qualification is a little trickier and potentially more complicated due to the fact that the eight best-performing third-placed teams will also make it out of the group stages this year.
Below, we run through the Group E permutations for each nation, as all four teams prepare for their second matches of the 2026 World Cup on Saturday.

What Germany need to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages
Germany are in an extremely strong position after their opening match, as not only do they have three points, but they also have a goal difference of +6, which could come in handy should they fail to win either of their next two matches.
To make life easier for themselves, a win over the Ivory Coast on Saturday night would be enough to secure a place in the round of 32. Not only that, but it would also effectively mean that they will qualify as group winners.
Tiebreakers at the World Cup are initially based on H2H record, which Germany would have over the Ivory Coast, and then goal difference, which could come into play if they then lost to Ecuador and the Ivory Coast beat Curacao.
A draw against the Ivory Coast would also almost certainly be enough to secure qualification, too, but a defeat would mean they would require something from their final group game against Ecuador.

What the Ivory Coast need to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages
The Ivory Coast are in a very similar position to Germany, albeit with a goal difference of just +1.
However, what is in the Elephants' favour is the fact that they still have a match with the Group E minnows, Curacao, to come, which will feel like a safety blanket at this point.
A win over Germany would secure qualification and leave them needing just a point against Curacao to guarantee top spot in the group.
What Ecuador need to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages
After losing their first game, Ecuador face a must-win match against Curacao on matchday two.
If they can beat Curacao, then their fate will be decided in their final group game against Germany, a match they will likely need to take at least a point from if they are to make it to the round of 32.
The only realistic way they can qualify as one of the top two teams in Group E is by beating both Curacao and Germany.
Goal difference could become important in the race to be one of the highest-ranked third-place teams, so they could do with pushing for goals against Curacao on Saturday night.
What Curacao need to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages
Curacao have it all to do if they are to qualify for the World Cup knockout stages, but that was perhaps never a realistic aim anyway.
Following their 7-1 defeat to Germany, they will almost certainly need to pick up four points from their final two matches to make it through, which means they must first get a positive result against Ecuador.
If they can manage that, they will be hoping the Ivory Coast can beat Germany, in the hope that the Elephants rest players for their matchday three showdown next week.
