2026 World Cup Group E predictions and betting angles
Germany
Germany have the best World Cup record in European football, but their performances over the last two editions of the tournament have left a lot to be desired. They did not make it past the group stages in either Russia or Qatar, but their recent form under Julian Nagelsmann offers some encouragement.
Nagelsmann's side has won eight matches in a row, making them one of the form teams coming into the tournament, although only two of those victories were against teams that are competing in the summer's World Cup.
The squad is stacked with elite‑level talent, such as Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala, and while Florian Wirtz has taken time to make an impact at Liverpool, he has the ability to unlock defences for his country, having registered a whopping 22 goal contributions across 40 caps.
Despite recent World Cup missteps, Germany justifies their 1/40 price to qualify due to the fact that up to three teams could make it out of Group E. However, given the defensive strength of Ecuador and the Ivory Coast, 1/4 to win the group feels overpriced.

Ecuador
Ecuador arrive at the World Cup with one of the strongest qualifying records in South America. Only Argentina collected more points, with La Tri finishing above Colombia, Uruguay and Brazil, which is a significant achievement given the competitiveness of CONMEBOL and the fact that they were handed a three-point deduction.
They have an impressive spine to the squad, anchored by Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapie, both performing at top European clubs. In midfield, there's Moises Caicedo, who is one of the world's most valuable players in his position at £100 million, and in attack, they still benefit from the vast experience of Enner Valencia.
With the tournament being held in North America, Ecuador should benefit from geographical and climatic experience, so look well-placed to compete for second place in Group E.
Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast return to the World Cup for the first time since 2014, and they did so convincingly. They topped their qualifying group, went undefeated, winning eight of ten matches, conceding zero goals in the process. .
The squad appears to be quite well balanced, with the likes of Evan Ndicka, Franck Kessie and Nicolas Pepe all players with experience in major European leagues. Now a regular at Manchester United, Amad Diallo could be a match-winning threat on the back of three goals and an assist in four starts at AFCON 2025.
With the expanded format, the Ivory Coast have a realistic chance of reaching the knockout stage for the first time, likely as the best third-placed team.
Curacao
Curacao make history as the smallest nation ever to appear at a World Cup, both by population and land area. Their qualification run under former Netherlands and Feyenoord boss Dick Advocaat included finishing above Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, securing a remarkable debut.
The squad features a large contingent of Dutch‑based players, many of whom switched allegiance in recent years. One of which Aston Villa fans will recognise in Leandro Bacuna, who is the nation's captain and record appearance holder.
Curacao will be heavy underdogs in every match, especially in their opener against Germany, which will be the biggest in their history. For them, qualification alone is a landmark achievement.
