Wolves vs Tottenham H2H: Son remains the key for injury-hit Spurs

Wolves face Tottenham on Saturday with both teams coming into the match on the back of disappointing Premier League defeats last weekend. Wolves lost to Sheffield United via a controversial last-minute penalty while Tottenham lost 4-1 at home to Chelsea after seeing two players sent off over the course of the match. The incentive is there for both teams but who will prevail? You can find out on Saturday afternoon with kick off at Molineux scheduled for 12:30 UK time.

Wolves vs Tottenham H2H Record

The fixture between Wolves and Tottenham is one that is steeped in history in English football with both clubs regulars in the top flight. The 100th clash between the two clubs came just two years ago when they faced off in the League Cup. On that occasion, Spurs came out on top thanks to a penalty shootout and their record against Wolves is favourable.

  • Wolves Wins: 31
  • Draws: 21
  • Tottenham Wins: 52

The first match between Wolves and Tottenham came in 1908 when both clubs were in the second tier of English football. Spurs came out on top in an emphatic 3-0 victory, something Ange Postecoglou would love to replicate on Saturday. In recent years, the two clubs have both enjoyed success against one and other with just one match in the last eleven ending in a draw.

The last five Wolves vs Tottenham H2Hs

Wolves 0-1 Tottenham – 22 August 2021

Tottenham started the season with ex-Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo in charge and in his first away match as Spurs boss, he travelled back to Molineux. Santo's team took the lead after ten minutes thanks to a Dele Alli penalty and then parked the bus for the remainder of the match. Santo wouldn't last long at Spurs, however, and was sacked just two and a half months later.

Wolves 2-2 Tottenham – 22 September 2021

The 100th match between Wolves and Tottenham came in a League Cup match shortly after their league match at Molineux. By this point, the wheels were beginning to come off at Tottenham under Nuno Esporito Santo but they still managed to overcome Wolves, this time via a penalty shootout. Spurs would end up reaching the semi-finals where they lost to Chelsea.

Tottenham 0-2 Wolves – 13 February 2022

Wolves' most recent win away at Tottenham came in February 2022. Antonio Conte was in the hot seat at Spurs by this point but he couldn't do anything to stop Wolves walking away with three points here. Two first half strikes from Jimenez and Dendoncker secured the three points for Wolves who would end up finishing in tenth place in the table.

Tottenham 1-0 Wolves – 20 August 2022

At the beginning of last season, Spurs defeat Wolves courtesy of a second half strike from Harry Kane. Many people thought Tottenham would be serious title challengers at this point after Antonio Conte had turned their season around in the previous campaign. Ultimately, Conte was sacked after Christmas and Tottenham finished in 8th place.

Wolves 1-0 Tottenham – 04 March 2023

The most recent match between the two clubs ended in a 1-0 victory for Wolves. Antonio Conte was still the Spurs boss at this point but his assistant Cristian Stellini was in temporary charge with Conte recovering from surgery. The game was a dull affair with Adama Traore scoring the winner in the 82nd minute.

Wolves vs Tottenham H2H: Potential MVP

Since Harry Kane left the club in the summer, Son Heung-Min has taken on the role as leader of this Tottenham team and things have gone excellently for the South Korean thus far. He is now the captain of the side and has eight goals and one assist to his name in eleven Premier League appearances so far this season.

This is a huge improvement on his performances last season which had led to many people wonder whether Son's best years were behind him. On Saturday, he will be looking to score his third goal against Wolves.

Wolves vs Tottenham H2H – Key trend

If Wolves can secure the three points on Saturday then it will be the first time since 1968 that they will have managed back-to-back home victories over Tottenham. This might be a good time to play Spurs too with Postecoglou without three first choice defenders and James Maddison for the trip to Molineux. We are backing Wolves to get a result but for Son Heung-Min to get on the scoresheet.
