Wolves v Man Utd H2H record

The Wolves v Man Utd rivalry is one that has been ongoing for more than 125 years. They first met in 1892 when Manchester United were known as Newton Heath. Incredibly, Man Utd (Newtown Heath) ran out 10-1 winners in a result that remains the heaviest defeat in Wolves' long history.

  • Wolves Wins: 37
  • Draws: 20
  • Man Utd Wins: 55

Before Wolves' most recent promotion in 2018, the Wolves v Man Utd H2H was surprisingly fairly close. However, over the past six years, the Reds have consistently gotten the better of Wolves, making the overall H2H record appear more impressive. Given United's form this season, though, the match on Thursday represents a great opportunity for Wolves to get one back.

Wolves 0-1 Man Utd – 29th August 2021

Man Utd beat Wolves at Molineux on the third weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season. The Red Devils toiled for much of the match and in truth, it could have gone either way. Wolves missed several big chances, particularly in the first half, but after failing to score, Mason Greenwood scored to make it 1-0 and earn Ole Gunnar Soskjaer's men the three points.

Man Utd 0-1 Wolves – 3rd January 2022

Later on in the 2021/22 season, Wolves returned the favour by defeating Man Utd 1-0 at Old Trafford. United's season was already in tatters and Ralf Rangnick had been appointed as temporary manager to see the club through to the end of the season. Wolves were the better team and thoroughly deserved their victory, but they had to wait until the 82nd minute for their goal Joao Moutinho produced the goods.

Wolves 0-1 Man Utd – 31st December 2022

Man Utd made it back-to-back 1-0 wins at Molineux in December 2022. Marcus Rashford faced disciplinary problems coming into the match, much in the same way he does now, and Erik Ten Hag put him on the bench. Rashford was brought on at half time and scored a superb individual effort to break the deadlock. Both teams had further chances to score as the game went on but United hung on for the win.

Man Utd 2-0 Wolves – 13th May 2023

Man Utd welcomed Wolves to Old Trafford in May 2023 in dire need of a win after suffering back-to-back league defeats. Liverpool were closing in on Erik Ten Hag's men in the race for the top four so United needed the three points and that's exactly what they got thanks to goals from Martial and Garnacho. Man Utd secured their place in the top four the following week with a 1-0 win away at Bournemouth.

The most recent Wolves v Man Utd H2H came on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League. Wolves created several sensational openings throughout the match but their finishing let them down which allowed the home side to steal the win through a Raphael Varane header late on. In the dying minutes, Andre Onana clattered into Craig Dawson in the penalty area but the referee, and VAR, elected not to give a penalty.

Potential MVP – Rasmus Hojlund

After struggling for goals during the first half of the season, Rasmus Hojlund is beginning to look far more comfortable in a Man Utd shirt. While his teammates are still struggling to create chances for him, the big Dane has started taking matters into his own hands and his last three goals have all been scored without an assist from a teammate.

Hojlund now has eight goals to his name in all competitions this season and will fancy his chances of getting to double digits over the next couple of weeks, especially as Man Utd are yet to sign another striker this transfer window. Hojlund missed United's last game against Wolves with a back injury so this will be his first ever match against Gary O'Neil's side.
