Under 2.5 goals

Five of Vizela’s last seven home matches have featured fewer than three goals.

The second leg of the Primeira Liga play-off gets underway on Sunday evening as Vizela welcome AVS to the Estadio do Futebol Clube de Vizela, aiming to overturn a daunting three-goal deficit.

Vizela vs AVS prediction: Can Vizela pull off the improbable?

Key stats

  • The last two meetings between these sides have featured at least six bookings.
  • Vizela’s previous three home fixtures have all finished 1-1.
  • The home side have netted exactly once in five of their last seven games.
  • AVS have not scored more than one goal in any of their last 12 away matches.

Correct score prediction: Vizela 1-1 AVS

This predicted scoreline reflects each team’s recent habits. Vizela have struggled for firepower, scoring precisely once in each of their last three games – all of which ended in draws.

Meanwhile, AVS have not exactly sparkled on their travels either, but they have still managed to find the net once in five of their last seven away outings.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Bookmakers lean towards Vizela despite winless home run

  • HOME 1/1 (2.00) – 50.00%
  • DRAW: 12/5 (3.40) – 29.41%
  • AWAY: 23/10 (3.30) – 30.30%

Despite failing to win any of their last three home matches, Vizela have been handed a 50% chance of victory by the bookmakers – a decision likely rooted in their strong home record this season, which includes a 13-match unbeaten run featuring seven wins.

On the other hand, AVS have been given a win probability of just over 30%. This is not surprising considering the visitors hold a comfortable advantage and may choose to sit back and absorb pressure. Their away record supports this approach, having lost four of their last five games on the road.

Most recent H2Hs: History favours AVS

These sides have only met twice before, and both occasions have ended in victory for AVS. They claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the Taca da Liga in 2023 before dismantling Vizela 3-0 in the first leg of this tie.

Sunday marks the first time Vizela will play host in this fixture, and they will hope home support can help spark a turnaround.

Vizela preview: Fabio Pereira may go all out in attack

Jean-Pierre Rhyner is available again after serving a suspension and should slot straight back into the back line to add experience and structure.

With Vizela chasing a three-goal swing, head coach Pereira may be forced to roll the dice. A more aggressive set-up could see Sava Petrov join Vivaldo Semedo up front in a two-man attack.

Predicted lineup: Morro (GK), Ramos, Correia, Rhyner, Reis, Ntolla, Nascimento, Loppy, Morschel, V. Semedo & Petrov

AVS preview: Head coach Mota suspended from the dugout

AVS produced an emphatic scoreline in the first leg, though it took patience and a second-half flurry to break down Vizela. Gustavo Assuncao opened the scoring from the spot in the 62nd minute before Tunde Akinsola struck twice in quick succession.

It was not all smooth sailing, however, as head coach Jose Mota received a red card and will not be allowed in the dugout for the return leg, meaning assistant Joao Moreira da Silva is expected to take charge.

Rafael Rodrigues, who notched an assist before being forced off late on, may not be risked, paving the way for Kiki Alphonso – now back from suspension – to step in at left-back. Midfielder Lucas Fernandes and forward Gerson Rodrigues could miss out once again.

Predicted lineup: Bertelli (GK), Kiki, Texeira, Devenish, Fonseca, Assuncao, Grau, Mercado, Piazon, Akinsola &Luis
